reflash F450 to F350 specs?
Hello. I've got the 6.4 in my 2010 F450 pickup. In the F450, Ford detunes the 6.4 to 325HP/600PF from the F350's 350HP/650PF so owners don't burn out the engine by making it work too hard with the higher tow loads possible of the F450. Warranty considerations aside, does anyone know if Ford can reflash the computer to F350 specs? I imagine that this might effect the transmission settings, too. Thanks.

I don't know anything about the bare frame version of the F450, but my 2010 Ford Superduty PICKUP brochure (and Ford website) both have an asterisk beside the quoted HP/Torque figures. At the bottom of the page, they show the detuned F450 figures. So, the F250/F350 pickups enjoy the 2010 350HP/650PF figures that Ford bragged about while I get by with 325HP/600PF. Don't get me wrong, I drive at best-mileage speeds, and I only tow about 17,000lbs maximum (well short of the F450 limit), but the extra juice would help on the occasional short highway ramp.

At this time, I don't have a trusted Ford guy. Please do ask your guy, and let us all know. I'd really appreciate knowing if the transmission shift points are reflashed along with the power settings if this were to occur. Thanks!

As far as I know, all F450 pickups with the 6.4 are 350/650 and come with 4.30s...4.88s and the detune were avail only in 2008 if one so optioned

I'd like to know your source for this. Everything I have seen says the F-450, regardless of gears, came with 325/600 if it had the 6.4. I haven't seen anything to suggest it was gearing dependent or dependent on anything at all.

My god damn window sticker. Ask anyone with a clue, they'll tell you the same thing. Your sources are wrong. A lot of confusion surrounded this but everyone in the know, er, knew!

Are you going out of your way to be an *** or does it just come natural? All I said was everything I've seen says otherwise, I didn't say a damn thing about sources and only asked what yours was. If you are right that just makes me tickled stupid and can't for the life of me see why you felt the need to act like a right ***** in your response.
Thanks for the info though. back at ya.

Hmm. Obsessive person I can be I just had to run out in my garage at 11:00 to check my original window sticker on my 2008 6.4 diesel 4.30 geared F-450 and I'll be danged if it mentions anything at all about the engines TQ & HP ratings. It sure mentions the 6.4 and the gears, but not a peep about the numbers. I guess my sticker must be an oddball, or whoever printed it out just figured I was one of the folks in the know.

Everybody play nice! I've attached a link to the 2010 brochure. Check out page 6. That's the page that quotes HP/torque for the 6.4 and the footnote at the bottom of the page reads "governed at 325hp and 600lb-ft of torque @ 2000 rpm on F-450". The 2010 pickup didn't come with any auto transmissions lower than a 4.30 (according to the brochure). http://www.ford.ca/pdf/brochures/11217_en.pdf

reluctantfiver- Sorry for the derail. I'll post what info I can quickly dig up confirming full F450 power in 08 I have when I'm at the office computer, but it seems for MY10 Ford may have made changes similar to when they dropped the 4.88 rear end.
