Exclamation No start. Need a hand in College Station, TX!!

So my truck has been down for almost 3 weeks now. 2.5 of those it has been at a local shop for diagnoses only. He has been unable to solve the problem. I pulled my ICP and IPR from the parts truck this AM with the intention of swapping them on my DD to see if that is it. When I got there he said it was getting nearly 1500 psi of oil pressure and didn't feel those would change anything so I didn't waste my time.
He thinks it's a fuel delivery issue. There is adequate fuel getting to the bowl so if so it has to be between the bowl and injectors. Mechanic thinks the IDM may be bad but is going to "check some other stuff".
Rewind: I ran the tank very low before I was able to hit a fueling station but it never stuttered once. I got diesel and took off. About 8 miles down the road it started to run like crap and only got worse until it finally powered down and died. Changed fuel filter, cleand FPR screen, still no start. Took it to shop. Computer wasn't reading rpms so changed to a new IH CPS. Cranks like hell but won't fire. It will smoke like hell intermittently and try to fire occasinally but just won't light up.
Once before I ran the rear tank pretty low and a similar thing happened. After a LOT of cranking and some diesel kleen it fired up and idled like poo for a LONG time but resolved and no problems since.
Anymore advice? Anybody around here willing to let me borrow an IDM for grins? Does it seem like that could be the problem? It's getting to the point where I need my truck again and not really any progress is being made at the shop and I don't have a scan tool or it would never be at the shop.
