Question 2005 Powerstroke No Start - Last post on this issue (I hope)

Got the mechanic coming out tomorrow finally. He is supposed to be good, also w/electronics (shorts, etc.)

He is a diesel mechanic, as well as gas, he has not however worked on a powerstroke before.

Is there anything pertinent he needs to know?

Should I print him the no start page?, the ficm test page?

History of no start:

Radio, power window glitch (radio, powerwindows, map lights, would go out on their own at their own choosing - however even when out the cd disc changer worked as well as clock settings)

Check engine light on - code for cyl 5 injector circuit low

check engine light goes off by self

check engine light off/on intermittent no change in truck at all - purrs like a kitten.

Batteries fail (age i think)

Every now and then truck starts sluggish, little black smoke, evens out runs fine

Truck starts hard (over time) runs real rough, black smoke , stalls. Re starts right off, runs rough, black smoke, evens out, purrs like a kitten.

No start, plug it in, 30 min. starts up runs fine.

No start, plug in, starts up, 30 -45 min. runs fine.

No start, plug in 2 hours, starts rough, evens out, runs fine.

No start, plug in, 3 hours, starts hard, black smoke, rough chuggin, evens out, runs fine, purrs like a kitten.

Every time you get it started the first time, it starts all day, purrs like a kitten.

Now no start at all, cranks but won't fire, seems llike no fuel.

If anyone reads this and thinks there is anything he should check first, or anything he needs to know, it would be helpful and appreciated.

Hopefully the last post on this issue for me, and I finally get my baby back.

You have all been very helpful and supportive, bismic, cheezit, and more, I just can't think of them off the top of my head. I will become a supporting member now.

Incidently, what was the name of the electronic guru who had a lot of postings on here about electrical stuff?

Thank you all

By what you describe, it sounds like your FICM has gone south. Post the test results of your three FICM voltages to confirm this before though, before going ahead and replacing it.

Hey thanks, I will. I assume you mean; with key on, with key cycled, and while cranking? I checked it once with my friend, in the first two positions, but It looked like a very old volt meter and I am not a mechanic. With any luck, I will be able to post it tomorrow some time.

Yes, and I mean the live data readings under all the conditions you describe.
