hey guys i seem to have a issue with my water seperator.....i thought i picked up some bad fuel last week but it seems thats not really the case for the past week i have drained the seperator a bunch and the light comes back on approx 8-10 miles later .....some days it wont do it all then some days it will do it all day.......every time i drain there is zero water in the clear container that i am using.....what do i need to do to make this stop....i cant take it anymore every time it comes on i get worried even though i know there is no water.....could the sensor be bad and if so can i replace it?

One thing comes to mind that I read here, make sure you are sitting level or slightly nose down when you drain the water.

 

im on level ground when draining the seperator.....is there no chance it could be a bad sensor cause i have literally have drained 7 gallons of fuel out of the seperator over the course of a week and have not found any water in fuel other that a couple drops. by couple im talking 1-2 drops like from a dropper.....

 

I'd get a sensor and replace it. they are not expensive. Or if under warranty you could have them do it.

When was the last time filters were replaced? You will want to have proof.

 

is this something that i can buy at a local parts store or do i have to go through ford? also is it easy to replace it? and i replaced the filters(both) about 6500m ago(wix)......thanks....any additional info would be greatly appreciated....

You used wix filters? I'd replace them with the updated motorcraft ones myself.

I have not replaced the sensor myself but others have. It should be easy to do.

You could try a parts store but I bet it would have to be bought at Ford

 

im pretty sure they are wix...is that a poor choice? at the local part(o'rileys) store they told me they were the best....i didnt really know any better.....thye sold only 2 brands the wix for 65 bucks and the house brand for 20 bucks......how much are the motorcraft ones when you buy them? do you think this is what it is? have you ever heard of the sensor doing this even though there is no water?

 

When it comes to filters , I wouldn't use anything but motorcraft!!!!
That's the first thing they will look for if a problem was to arise!

 

Ok...would using motorcraft kept this from happening? I don't have a warrenty so I don't care what they point at unless using motorcraft keeps this from happening...

 

Don't know if the motorcraft would help with the false reading...or at least that is what we are assumeing, but you would have a better fit and less likely to have that water pass thru and into the HPFP and injectors..which would be more costly repair.

Only place I have found them (motorcraft PSD fuel Filters) is at the dealer. I have been getting mine from Ed at www.partsguyed.com.

I get a couple at a time. Always carry a spare with me when traveling.

 

Dieselfiltersonline.com sells Motorcraft filters. I found the air and fuel filters are quite a bit cheaper than the dealership. I found Motorcraft oil filters at Walmart for about the same price as online.

 

Just spoke with my local dealer...water sensor 26 bucks plug n play.,and the filters are 89 bucks

 

get the sensor from them, get filters elsewhere

 

I bought Motorcraft FD-4609 fuel filters from ebay. I paid $26 each, in sets of 3. I have a total of 4 filter packs ready to use.

so I have 40,000 miles worth of fuel filters ready.. and I'll keep looking for deals.
