We give up

Hi All, we have posted a few time about the problems we have been having with our 2004 F250, but we feel now is the time to stop putting money in to it and go with a gas model, what we have to figure out is will it pull our 5th wheel, 32ft 9000lb loaded, what do you all think, I have to have some idea before we try to head south this winter, any info will help. Thanks

I pulled my trailer with skid steer ( 8500#) attachments-3 about 600-950Lb ea. trailer 4600" tools/spares/ 120gal of diesel - approx 17K behind gasser(6.2) no problems - about 1200 miles with about 100 off road (bad hills on rock) & that was with 3.73 gears..

9000 lb 5ver - shouldnt be any sweat at all.........

Good luck - drive one & tow with it.......

Well the V10 v/s PSD thread is well over 7000 replies long and didn't come to solid conclusion. Good luck in reading.
9000 lb trailer is about capacity of VW Touareg.

You will be absolutely fine pulling 9000 pounds with a V10!!!! I have owned two of them and pulled 7400, 9200 and 10,500 (this was the 34 foot 5th wheel and I pulled it for three solid years).

You won't set any speed records up hills but that really may not worry you anyway. In totally stock form the V10 is well equipped to handle it. I've been towing campers for over 25 years, don't worry. Also from what I see about the new 6.2L V8's you should be just as well off in total stock setup.

Is this a Volkswagen Enthusiasts site??? Before you continue to EuroTroll please get your facts straight. The Touareg is rated for 7,716 lbs towing capacity.

To the OP: I strongly suggest a V10-powered truck if you want to get a gasser. The 5.4L does a fine job for what it is, but the V10 is as reliable as the 5.4L and has a considerable amount more power.

The new 2011 6.2L V8 would be the best gasser available if it's within your price range.

Oh now come on Tom be nice to Kajtek1. He probably drank four cases of Heineken in the last fifteen minutes and his vision is just a bit blurred. I'm sure he couldn't tell he was on the browser tab for FTE instead of the GVVBE (German Vehicles are the Very Best Ever) forum. Give him ten minutes and I am sure he'll sober up and correct his mistake.

To the OP you can't go wrong at that weight with the V10 (if looking used) or the new 6.2 V8 (if looking new). If looking V10 try looking for an 05+ with the 3V engine and the TorqShift transmission (if you want an auto).

EDIT: BTW I assume the way you talk you have a 6.0 diesel. What issues have you been having that makes you want to get rid of it?

Hahahahaha I have not laughed that hard in a while!
Was going to rep you both, but I was only able to get Mike.

The V10 if your looking used ( or 2010s still on the lot) or the 6.2 if your wanting to buy new will both pull very well.
A 5.4 will do it ok too, but I don't think you would be happy steping down to that after towing with you 6.0.

you didnt mention what budget or years your looking at ??

if you can afford a 2011 6.2gasser with the 4:30 gears you'll be VERY happy...

if you cant afford a 2011, then any year V10 with the 4:30 gears would be ideal.. of course the 05+ trucks being the models to get if you find one..

The quoted number is a "magic number" that equals to 3500 kg, what is the European limit for towing without commercial DL.
Just like my F450 is legally rated for 5000 lb payload, while I routinely load 10,000 on it.
The Touareg is not scared about bigger loads like the picture shows.
The point I was making is that 9000 lb trailer doesn't require any Superduty vehicles. Any bigger van will pull it (ask Bill) or Nissan Titan for another example. So if full size truck is having problem towing such a trailer -I would avoid it no matter towing or not.
Fact that the dispute started in the first place shows that designs of some trucks are questionable.

Funny you post that picture that SOB was taking up both lanes yesterday heading East on 74 toward Indianapolis and not even using their flashers.

How far did you follow I-74 through IL and IN? If you were near Peoria, you got within 30 miles of me....

My v-10 2valve just pulled 10k over the weekend. I don't see a problem pulling 9k and things would be even better with a 3valve.

You may want to glue a few of the repair bills from to diesel on the inside of the gas cap of the v10 to keep things in perspective.

I get a kick out of those stupid idiotic commercials of vehicles pulling a plane. Has no bearing on anything.
Tow that same load at 70 mph on the runway and see what happens.

This guy can do it im sure anything can "PULL" it.

How would a Touareg help in the OP situation? Seems like a lot of work to get it to properly tow any fifth wheel. Lot of customization there. Seems like a better option would be a Super Duty with either the 5.4L V8, 6.2L V8 or the 6.8L V10.
