Hello all,
Here I will be showing and describing my first ever attempt at a restoration.
Bear with me please, There is not a lot of stuff that I know, I am pretty much doing this by the seat of my pants.
This will be a long restoration since I am poor
I am going to do my best at utilizing the junk yards but buying parts new when I can.

A little about the truck
I found here at the ranch where we go prairie dog hunting.
I went out to get it on August 12th of this year, About 1200 miles later we arrived back at home. The truck cost me $150.00 and the trip cost about $400 plus we got to shoot a few prairie dogs!!
Yes I did say $150.00 that all I had to pay for her, The ranch is becoming a very good friend
Its a 1970 Ford F-100, 2wd. Its powered by a 360 big block, 4 speed manual tranny and a 9inch rear end.
The only rust I have found so far is on the box floor. I have not even found a rusty bolt. She is pretty dented up though as you will see.
I have the title and it is still the original 1969 title. This truck was his first truck.
It has not been driven on the road since the early 80s.
I forgot to write down the milage but I will post that up here soon!

Ok here I am starting to rip it apart.

Here it is without the brush guard, front bumper, hood and grille inserts

Some plans are:
Get the frame powder coated, turn the 360 into a 390 with a lopey cam.
Also going to lower it and add power disc bakes in the front and add power steering.
Also thinking about taking the tank out of the cab and installing a Ford truck seat from the early 2000's.

So far I have only worked on it for a few hours after work 2 times and two full weekend days.
I am going to try to get the frame sandblasted and powder coated within the next couple weeks.

I still have to figure our what parts I need for the motor, order them up and bring it in to get machined. This will be my first engine buildso I hope I dont screw up bad

nice looking ride, i almost got a 72 for free and HAD to have a COMPLETE resto.. but i didn't get it due to an uncle not ready tolet go..

 

Yesterday I pulled the box off.

Today a friend came down and helped me with a bunch of work.

We pulled the cab off, then decided to pull the motor and tranny.

After that we took out the bolts for the rear end and pulled that.
after we sat and stared at it for a moment we decided to pull out the front end also.
I almost have the frame ready to be sandblasted and powder coated!!!

Well This weekend I picked up a donor truck.
Its a 1970 f-100 2wd Custom, The same thing as mine. Its even Brown!!
I could believe how clean it was. the cap and front clip are shot but the rest is good.

The parts I plan on using from the donor truck are, Front suspension, windshield, door parts, box, hood, mics interior parts, front bumper, rock guard, all lights/lenses, grille shell, and a bunch other. The motor is a 302 and the tranny is a 3 on the tree. I think I am going to put the motor in my plow truck!!
Finding this truck probably saved me thousands of dollars and a few years of work to get it finished.
Now I just need to find some disc brake spindles, brake booster, and power steering box.

i couldnt help but notice the arrows sitting on the hood, do you just bow hunt or are you in competion too? i shoot both... gets expensive quick

 

man that truck looks to be in GOOD shape! good luck with the build. keep the pics coming.

 

It's sad but some must Die so that others may live. Throw nothing away. When finished sell what ya don't need for spare parts. It's good that the parts truck will live on in yours and others. RIP

 

Sorry for not posting in a while, I changed jobs and have not had a whole lot of time. Now that its cold up here I have to get heat in the garage then I can start disassembly on the donor truck.

We are waiting

 

Wow its been forever. Well anyway, I lost the garage I was using (owners moved)so I had to haul everything to my house. Working outside had its downfalls expecially with the weather we have been having.

I have recently gotten the underside of the cab undercoated, the firewall, inside, back of the cab, and window channels painted. I used good automotive rattle can(if there is such a thing) I did a few coats of primer and a few of black then did a couple clear.
I hope it holds up. I have let the clear sit for a few weeks to get good and hard before I wet sand.

Keep in mind I am not a body man, I do not have a spry gun or air compressor big enough to paint with otherwise I would be using the real stuff.
The exterior of the truck will be painted with High quality paint but I wanted to get the back of the cab and window channels done so I can get the glass set in and put the cab on the frame. I am trying to cut costs so I figure if I can have body on the frame it will be cheaper for the paint/body man.

It is hard working outside. I at least have a small garage to work in during the winter months. Sometimes these projects take alot longer than we figure. Stay with it. Its looking good.
