I don't believe the turn signals were an option on the earlier years. They will mount to the truck just fine. I saw a thread somewhere, where the person bought the newer mirrors, and spliced the mirror wires into the wires for the turn signals somewhere under the dash, if I remember correctly. You can do it if you really want to, but you won't be able to use the wiring harness.

I just replaced my dinky mirrors with the towing ones, thought about going with a newer year but as stated the wiring harness is different '99 are round and I think '05+ are square. I ended up ordering the ones for the 99 (round plug) from truck champ, they are pretty good quality, telescopic and correct harness. plus if you do a search for truck champ and coupon you should be able to fine a 10% off one that will work or I think i remeber seening a coupon code in last month diesel power mag.

from their website

I think half way through '02 was when the harness was changed.

Yeah, somewhere in 02 they started wiring them and the 03's were the first to offer the lit mirrors (I think).

I scored a set for my 02 and was able to plug them in - only powering the mirror functions though. I had to hard wire the other functions (running lights, directionals, and heat). While I was at it, I wired the heat to a switch instead of just making it 'key-on hot' like the factory.

There are LOTS of threads on the subject - just start searching for 03 mirror upgrade.
