How 2 drain some tranny fluid

On one of my jaunts with this (most likely) VSS or wiring problem I had the fluid changed, then when it acted up again I add some Lucas.... so now its at least a qt to full, dipstik measures way hi in hot area when ITS COLD. So I guess I can loosen up the pan and wih one end lowered than the other drain some out..??
on a mustang a/t I was able tostick a small hose down the stick tube and with a siringe draw some out, but the tube won't go down the PSD dipstick tube.

Talking

Or, if you have access to a LARGE Syringe stick it onto some plastic tubing and suck it out through the dip stick tube. I do this for engine oil that I may want to have analyzed. Works like a champ.

I was told by a so called E40D expert that its good to be a quart extra full. His theory was that Ford's dipstick sucks and doesn't give you a accurate reading. Who know?? Me, I've had enough trouble with the pan gasket leaking, if I was going to get a quart out of there I would go Rog's way.

last year when i changed my fluid in my e4od I overfilled it too. disconnect the return line in the transmission and turn your truck on, make sure you have something to catch the fluid coming out. the return line is the one that is furthest to the rear of the transmission. this is how i took almost two quarts out.
here is a link to an article here in FTE, it goes over the procedure. Changing ATF Fluid in a E4OD and 4R100 transmission .: Articles
while i have a gas E4OD there shouldn't be much difference between the diesel model. i'm on the 7.3 forums becaus i'm starting to look at buying a 94-97 psd. hope it helps

There is no difference between the gas and diesel versions that will make any difference with that procedure.
