I just replaced my 4 year old megatron pluses with Kirkland brand as the batteries were weakening. Not impressed as the new kirklands are weaker than my 4 year old batteries - drop to 9.8 volts upon starting. They have no problem starting just don't like that low of voltage. I probably did not have to replace the old batteries as in the end found I was loosing a regulator on the alternator.

I expected the Kirklands to be as good as the megateons as I understand the are both made bt exide, have exact same specs so assumed they were the same. Not... Even with new 140 amp alternator.

How long were they on the shelf? Even new batteries should be given a full float charge when installed.

I just replaced the original batteries on my 05 with the factory motorcraft batteries. I figured 8 years is a pretty good deal. The local dealership had them for $110 each and gave me a discount to make them $100 each. Just make sure to replace them before they get weak.

based on the date if manufacture both had been on the shelf no more than two months (same date for both). Both were floated before install and again when the alternator was replaced a few weeks later. the new alternator goes right to 14.25v upon glow plugs off, voltage is right at 12.5-12.6 before startup and as such I'm confident they are being charged..... Just saying the Kirkland batteries dli received don't have near the staying power the megatron plus had even with a flaky alternator regulator.
