In need of info on MI...possibly relocating there.

I've been in negotiations with a company south of Springfield, MA. Things are looking VERY good here, just ironing out details of relocation and such.

I came home form an afternoon cruise with the wife to a VM from a company in Canton, MI wanting to talk to me about running their toolroom as well.

The MI job pays more, and gets me to within 3.5 hours from my kids, and said up front in the VM that they will cover relocation costs.

The bad thing...it's tired directly to the automotive industry and is in MI.

The other company has carved out a niche market with a specialized product that is widely used, but the pay is less. AND we still haven't decided on the relocation portion of the negotiations. It also takes me 12 hours from the kids.

I'm currently 26 hours drive from the kids.

I'm skittish about the auto industry right now, and even more so about living in MI.

However...property values are low there.

Gimme some ideas here, folks...

Good Morning,

Your concern with the Auto Industry is certainly just, but.. a big but to, if this company is still in buisness, there is a very strong chance this buisness will continue. THey have done something right, and has done it better then others. That being said, you have some big shoes to fill.

I know really nothing of Canton itself, I will look into it a little more, but hopefully some other closer will chime in here. Meanwhile, here is a link http://www.cantonpublicsafety.org/

Auto industry is a big ?? for stability right now. It all depends on the consumer purchasing a non foreign vehicle. And the company you might work for supplying the correct parts.

Companies making parts for them are genreally okay, cause they can just switch and sell to somebody else.

The companies that can only make specific products for the auto industry are the ones that are to be aware of. Like people who make seats and dash's and stuff.

If your machining parts, which it sounded like, you should be all good.

Nothing yet...they are dragging their feet.

I've interviewed for jobs in 4 states since this one, and all seem to be taking the process as slow as they can...

I know...I'm now wishing I had followed a different form of employment in my younger days.
