well I finally decided to track down my massive exauhst leak its leaking where the up pipe slides into the Y any one have an idea how to fix it with out making that conection permanent?
Yup its an 85 6.9 out of an airforce buss with 69,000 on it. I swapped it in its got a T3/T4 the factory turbo set up with the 2.25 outlet and abortion of a down pipe. You musta missed all the post when I ripped my 7.3 apart and found the #4 hole cavitated or the later threads where I found and swapped in a 6.9 about a year and a 1/2 ago. Havent seen you on for a while Pete hows everything going?

remove the up pipe and sand blast the ball flange and cross pipe. help it make a better contact. you can also spray the ball flange with a few coats of the gasket spray (rattle can high heat) it takes like an hour between coats, a few coats on it will seal it up real nice.
Wich high temp gasket spray the highest temp I can find is the copper but its only rated for 800* and when I run state line I'm at 1,100 for 20 minutes or more but atleast I'm about the only vehicle able to do the speed limit and I can do it towing.
exhaust temp average drop is 50 degrees every 1 ft of pipe. you'll be fine with the spray. if i were you, id look for some lead sheet. also, you can find gaskets for the ball flange at napa.
Deacon Industries - High Temp Sealants I want this its perfect its removeable and I could melt my engine befor it will over heat but I have no idea where to get it. And the spray might work but on average post turbo temps are 300* lower than EGT at the manifold so an 800* sealant would be cutting it close. Any idea on a part number for the gasket?
ok ore what did you search to find it it doesn't say anything about the size or what vehicle its for I googled the number and far as I can figure its for a BMW
just searched exhaust and it was on the 1st page. not sure any sizes, nothing shown on the site but thats what your lookin for. if you go into the store, give em that part number and tell them your looking for something like that and they will show you more options.
gonna try the copper stuff but dont think it will work permatexes site said 800* but the pakage its in says 700* intermitent and I already tryd red 650* in hopes it would hold long enough to carbon it up but it blew out the first time I drove it but maybe it was the presure that took out the red not the 1300*
