I saw the 5.0 in a 1978 F150, pretty tight fit if you have A/C installed.

I ran a 5.8 in a 75 for 7 years, but the best way to do it would be to run a megasquirt for engine management. its possible to do an gets wayyy better mileage

Well I wasn't planning on doing the swap for mileage, but more for the market of aftermarket parts. And just the fact that it's fuel injected! Is the c4 trans a good match for the motor?

Well I swapped a fuel injected 302 into my 69 F100, so theres no reason you couldn't do it in a 73.

I've swapped a fuel injected 302 into my Jeep YJ too, and I'm thinking about doing a Ranger V8 swap soon too

So go for it.

the c4 will work just fine. small block bolts up to small block. i ran mine with the 4 speed. i used the bell houshing off a 300" 6, clutch off a 78 302, and the flywheel from a 95. I was pushin 400 hp with it. only problem was i used all the factory 95 wiring, and made it work off the original ignition switch. if i'd known more about the fuel injection set up back then, i woulda used stand alone engine management (like megasquirt) to make it work. its kinda 6 of one half dozen of the other with the performance parts for the fuelie vs carb. only reason i saw for the swap was the mileage increase. i went from 8 with a 390 4bbl, to 14.
