Aftermarket heat/ac?

Anyone used an aftermarket heater/AC system in their truck? I'm putting a cummins in my 78 CC and the stock a/c heater box won't fit. I thought since it sucked anyhow I'd replace it with an aftermarket setup. Any thoughts?

I have used vintage air and it is a very good kit. I have heard some good things about old air too.

I put the box in the glove compartment (which I don't use anyways, still have some paperwork in there, but most of my junk I have in there, I have in my center seat console) to hide it from the engine compartment. It's factory NOS also and works great! Ice cold air.

I have this kit in my 73 F250. I had it installed professionally by someone who specializes (according to their website) in air conditioning systems. The system absolutely stinks. Called the manufacturer to see if I could have them look at it (I live near Tampa), zero help. My advice: don't buy it. I may rip mine out just for spite.

Ken, you relocated the factory condenser and housing to inside the cab in place of the glove box?

Wow that sucks! I'm glad I got a real word opinion before I bought it. I'm not ready to buy it so I had time to research. I know several people running vintage air (in cars) with great results as mentioned above. I have not looked into their kits but I think they cost a bit more and I'm not sure they have a direct system for a 73-79.
So whats the issues with your system? Just doesn't cool properly I guess? Is your truck an super or crew cab? I just can't imagine it providing less cooling than the factory set up.

I found someone to look at mine, actually this morning, since seeing this thread inspired me. I have not gotten the diagnosis yet, but the guy said the most common problem is that people overcharge the 134 systems, causing the poor performance. Hopefully, that's all it is. If so, I'll change my story about the system (install problem and not product problem).
PS Mine is a regular cab.

When I redid my factory A/C I bought a few things from NAP and they were always helpful and friendly. One of the charge fittings I ordered from them was stripped out when I received it and wouldn't screw on, I called them and they had me a new one in the mail the same day. They didn't even ask me to send them the messed up one back.

Fixed, and I'm curious about this too.

Yes, the glove box cover is still there, providing the illusion there is a glove box there, thus not messing with the look of my interior as you can see below:

We wanted to keep the engine compartment to be show quality and that huge black box was redonculous. I still have only enough room (1" or so) to just put my insurance and registration paperwork in there now.

I believe if I am not mistaken, that is a dealer add on air. Those two ***** in the center of the dash under the vents are the controls, correct?

Like I said earlier, it's factory NOS (New Old Stock) from Ford. The two ***** are the temp control and the fan motor which is separate from the heater defrost.
