Angry Ford lost another customer

i finally had it with the 6.0 on my 1-ton dually. blew oil all the way to Amarillo. after EGR, STC, head gaskets, coolant filters, oil coolers, head studs, ...
i gave up.

pulled into a Chevy dealer and traded for Duramax. i understand they all have issues, but Ford should have recalled these engines or at least doubled the warranty like Chevy did on their injector problem.

after owning several Fords, it will take quite awhile for Ford to earn me back as a customer.

Truthfully all diesel engines from the big 3 have their share of problems. Injectors and turbos aren't the only weak spots on Duramaxes, I have seen it first hand on a bunch of my friends Chevys. I wish you the best of luck.

Enjoy your new truck. What year did you buy? I must admit, while I have had nowhere near the problems as you have, Im almost to the point of going over to a LMM duramax myself.

FWIW - my 06 psd has 93k and the only I had to replace was the FICM. It sounds like the 2005's had a lot more issues than the later psd's.

Good decision, the LMM is great. Just like the 6.0 Do NOT use any aftermarket fuel filters. Cause big problems. If you need any GM service history or any of that good info, PM me

I had two Chevy's before I bought my present Ford. One for 12 years and the other for 16 years. Both were very reliable. I bought my Ford for its power. I'm still very impressed by the power but have had a bit of repairs too. When I take it on a long trip pulling my fifth-wheel I worry a bit. I have friends with the Duramax and some have had problems too. It seems some of these diesels seem to have no problems and some nickle and dime you to death. Good luck you are due a good truck and this is probably going to be it.

sounds like the duramax are holding up pretty well.

now i can concentrate on my 99 V10 SD. it's my ranch truck and fall surf fishing truck.
need some work on head gaskets and trans cooler.

need to decide either modify or trade. i would like to mod it since it's nee a good truck, but i also would like to have a pre-6.0 diesel. i heard you could put a 5.9 cummins in it.

After owning all three big auto makers I will stick with my Ford. 2005 F350 6.0 with 86k. completely stock and have only replaced the EBP sensor and EGR once. Granted on the 05s and 6.0 there have been issues and with other Mfgs they have had their own issues. I have kept on top of TSBs and preventive maintenance. I still feel that Ford makes the best truck. Good luck as Chevy and Dodge make nice trucks as well but they all have their own quirks. One things for sure is if Man designs and builds it, it wont be perfect. However with all the problems you have had i dont blame you at all and probably would be doing the same.

Of the big three, Ford builds the best truck but with the least reliable engine. Dodge has the best engine with the Cummins but builds the cheesist truck. GM Durmax/Alison combo is more reliable than Ford but the GM chassis is not as durable.

I really like my 2005 Ford Diesel truck but, if I had it to do over again, I would buy the Dodge/Cummins. It's cheaper to fix or upgrade the rest of the truck than it is to fix all the engine issues with the 6.0!

Ford reliablity

Ford implemented a team dedicated to quality in 2003. Per vehicle, there quality has been steadily and significantly improving. The 2007 trucks had the least troubles reported per 100 vehicles, Ford in general, was ranked 24th this year, ahead of all major manufactures and for the first time beat Toyota lol. I will look at the data and post the actual numbers when I get home.

This labor day worked on my friends 03 Chevy HD. Top of fuel filter assembly next to electrical connector for pressure switch started leaking diesel. Would not pressurize fuel system. Would run for a few seconds if we used plunger to bleed pressurize fuel system. Called dealer which wanted $700 for top filter assembly thing. My friend has close to 80K on that truck and all his gauges are out too. Aparantly it is a know issue that the instrument pods go out. My truck went 96K before I had to do any repairs. My other friends truck also at the beach with us was having issues. P0500 code for VSS and is having problems with his front axles.

Don't get me started on the problems my Cummings friend has had with his Dodge while still under warranty and over 1500 out of pocket for non-covered bs stuff.
