it is 36mm and heres a little trick a used a craftsmen shallow cut it down to 1 inch and 1 quarter in length because with a half inch drive rachet it will hit the cross menber on a 4x4 just gives a little more room in a tight place

You actually need a 36 and a 24 mm socket. Two diff. size caps. Do not use a 1/2" drive ext. on the top one. Good chance you will break the cap. They should have never put that on the top cap.

For the frame mounted filter, I use a universal at the socket and about 3 feet of extensions toward the rear of the truck to get my rachet away from all of the clutter. It works very well.

You are lucky. It's a PITA on the 4x4. They didn't take the front drive shaft into consideration when they decided where to mount it.

If you think it's that bad on a 6.0L, try doing it on a 6.4L with that stupid harness in the way, where it's clipped to the frame.

on what Cj69 said using a 1/2 drive on the top cap. Yes very bad idea no one told me and it cracked with a hairline crack. Did not see it till it started spraying fuel when i started it. So that was a 62.40$ mistake. lesson well learned.

Agreed. I have changed lots of 6.0 filters at work and thought they were bad. That was until I did my first set of 6.4 filters a few weeks ago. I like doing 6.0 filters now!
