OT: What I do in my spare time... fix brokedown Chebbies!

Well, last night my Dad and the rest of the family (including me) went for an evening drive in the new to us 99 chevy suburban. We got about 2 miles into our drive, when Dad turned onto the main road and got in it pretty good... it went from 20-almost 60mph in 2nd gear (5.7vortec with 4.10 gears).
We got down the road about 2 more miles and we started smelling antifreeze, so we turned around and headed for home, but we got about 2 miles from home and the temp gauge started climbing, fast, so he pulled over and shut it off. Got out and looked at it, blown intake manifold gasket. Oh, great .

My brother and I ran home the two miles to get my dependable old FORD!!!! grabbed a tow strap and chains and went back, hooked it up, and towed it home. here are some pics of what I did today on it.

Just be glad your driving a Ford!

Well, I started putting it back together today. It is going alright except for the distributor, it does not want to set down in the right spot. And of course chevy had to put it on the back of the motor Briiliant

I'll figure it out eventually.....

oil pump drive rod. i think on chevys they are slotted like a screwdriver only giving you 2 positions for it to slip in. fords are hex shape, making it alot easier

That figures, cause I can get it to go in in one spot and 180 deg. from there, but neither one will line up with the distrbutor cap (the rotor isn't lined up with the number 1 cylinder)????????? (number one is at top dead center)

or just throw the distributer in any way it fits, and wire it in order. 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2. distributer turns clockwise. cyl numbers are1-3-5-7 on the driver side and 2-4-6-8 on the pass

That's what I was going to say. Drop it in, then look at the rotor to determine where to start the plug wires in the right firing order. More than once I can remember having to shift the wires by one hole then set the timing.

Thanks for the help guys! I got it all back together today and started it up, it runs, but not very smooth.

I have to go hook it up to a scanner to sync the cam and crank.
