fuel cooler pump

I have found that what i was looking for is the fuel cooler pump that i think is next to the fuel coolant reservoir. Can someone please tell me how this could go bad all of a sudden and what it would sound like if it was bad. Thank You

Fuel cooler pump is located on the drivers side of fan shroud right inside the wheel opening.

Same Problem.

My fuel cooler pump is going bad - it started with a high pitched whine and now it's barking like a dog. I'm guessing it's on it's last legs.

My problem, I can't find the proper part number. The Ford dealership guys (two of them) keep giving me the PFB - 95 which is the FUEL PUMP, not the fuel COOLER pump. I'm searching the internet for a part diagram for an 08 - 6.4L diesel but so far no luck.

Can anyone tell me the proper part number?

Thanks!

Have not tried bleeding it.

Any tips on how to bleed that pump?

Just to make sure we're talking about the same thing, this is the aux. pump that pushes coolant into the fuel cooler assembly - correct?

In the meantime, I believe that I found the Ford part number for that pump:

ZC3Z8B552A

Maybe bleeding it is the solution, the sound of the whine changes and it could well be air trapped. I'm hoping there is not enough air to burn the pump out.

Comments? Suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

ya. i got lot of ideas.....
unbolt the fuel cooler radiator from the charge air cooler and invert it so the hoses are up to release traped air in the radiator.
next remove the coolant line ( the front most one closest to the grill)at the fuel cooler (silver box). back fill at that line. do this with the fuel cooler resivor cap off to aid in pushing air out the to the degas chamber.
reinstall hose. top off degas chamber and give it a try

Update.

Thanks for all the help so far.

I went outside to eyeball this and your instructions are simple and accurate.

I can unbolt the fuel cooler rad very easily. To invert it, I'm guessing that I can carefully flop the top of the rad down over the fender. I don't know if there is enough slack in the hoses but I'm guessing I should be able to get the top of the rad below the hoses. Hopefully this will flush any air in the cooler rad towards the top of the system.

I found the front hose that connects to the cooler assembly. I can easily unclip this and backfill. Backfilling basically means that I'm pouring coolant into this unclipped cooler hose. The coolant should flow down the hose, into the inverted rad and push any additional air up towards the degas chamber.

If this works, I'm guessing I should probably see coolant start to fill the degas chamber? I may even see a burp in the chamber? Once this happens, I know that all of the air should be out of the system - I can re-attach the hose, then top off the degas chamber.

The only reason I didn't try it tonight was that I didn't have any coolant in the garage.

Please let me know if:

1. You think I understand the process correctly.

2. Suggestion on coolant?

Thanks again.

your pretty much on the money. the fuel cooler radiator will drop down between the bumber and the charge air cooler. it will not stand 100% up right but it should work well enugh.
you may or may not see water or air being pushed back up to the chamber but thats ok.

so far as what coolant goes in there.. ford gold.
hope it works for you.

You can also get the ford spec gold coolant at NAPA. Has the ford spec # right on the front of the container.

This thread has been very informative.

Doing this tomorrow.

I'm going to to do this tomorrow around noon.

I will take some photos and post them (if I can) so the next person may benefit from this thread.

I really appreciate it when someone takes the time to explain, in detail, what to do - it's not often that happens. I will try and give back by updating this post after I give it a try...

Thanks again everyone.

If you have any questions please feel free to send me a pm... I dont get home till around 6pm cst or so and dont ever log on at work so there may be a delay in replying.. I hang out in the 6.0 section more often then not so I can be found there as well.
also there's only 2 10mm bolts that hold the fuel cooler radiator on to the charge air cooler.
