running oversized tires?..ethanol gas?..12 in pretty low. Start with a tune up..plugs fuel filter, air filter, clean MAF..check tire pressure, any brakes dragging? driving it like you stole it?. alot of stop & go driving?

12mpg is what you're going to get in mixed city/hwy driving (60/40) with 10% ETOH gas. You will get 13-14 with standard gas. Don't waste your money attempting to put intakes, exhausts or tuners if you're looking to improve that number. Those mods will make it sound real nice and wake up the engine, but 12mpg using 10% ETOH gas is as good as it gets. The only thing that helps is to drive like there's a raw egg taped to the gas pedal...push lightly and you won't crack it.

Welcome to the world of a FORD truck with a 5.4, an automatic & 4X4!
Thats about as good as it gets. But as said above, do a total tune up & drive like your Grandma.
Good luck on the 56, and lets see some pic's!

Pretty accurate. I've had mine since new and back when gas was 100% gas, I got 13-14 in normal all around running and 18-19 on the interstate. Ethanol cuts a mile or two off my all around and I haven't been on any long trips with ethanol.

as said before making it shift below/around 2k rpm really makes a difference, if you drive it like a truck you should pick up a few mpg's.

2004 FORD F-150 GAS MILEAGE

I have been getting 12.8 with a 6" lift, oversized tires, 4X4, evolution chip, supreme gasoline, and mostly city driving. I definitely would be light on the gas pedal if you are really looking to save money on gas though.

My '05 is still bone stock. I get 13~14 around town, hand-calculated, 16~17 tops on all-freeway running no faster than 70mph. My wife has a heavy foot when accelerating and braking and gets at best 13mpg around town when she drives it. She complains I drive like a grandpa

One thing I've noticed is brand new tires tend to result in lousier mpg's. It gets better as they wear down.

Mileage

07 Scab Heavy Half, long bed, 5.4 with 4.10 gearing and it virgin except for Alloy rims. I get around 15 mpg in town and 18+mpg highway. On the highway, I keep the rpms at 2k to get best mileage. Around town I'm another one of the Grandpa drivers (actually I am a Grandpa). I also plan trips etc so I'm not doing any more driving than I have to.

I'm also a stickler for maintenance and keeping everything current.

get a job! I'm in high school and get 10-11 mpg (big tires, bad driving (for fuel economy)) all you have to do is work 6-7 days a week and that $70.00 worth of gas every week will feel like nothing... (not really )
