Reason: claravaction
It could if it is stuck partially open, but if your truck is EFI there are a lot of other possibilities so start by pulling the codes and checking fuel pressure.
i dont have a code port that i know of they do call it a wiggle test
or a hom meeter test wich i dont understand i have a 1987 ford f 250 w with a 351 / 5.8 L

if that year is a Fuel injected motor then you can go to fordfuelinjection.com and see how to pull the codes from the computer.

Ford's run ECU's (computers) since 84'. You my actually have an variant, called an MCU, but the connector's the same.
Driver side inner fender. its a test port with one big plug and a small single plug
An MCU will have the same 6- pin connector as an ECU (neither actually have wires in all the connector ports), but the MCU will lack the small single wire plug.
The actual mcu or ecu unit is usually behind the drivers side kick panel in the cab. The test port, as mentioned, on the engine compartment driver side fender well.
OK thanks for the info i looked all i see is a gray round plug that doesn't go any were and a couple of big round plugs leading from the what i wont to call the ignition modular i would post a pic but i dont know were or if i can post it

I have a 97 F 250. My port or plug for the code reader attached to the bottom of the dash just to the right of the steering column. It's rectangular and should have a cover on it. What i have found out so far is you should check the "Differential Pressure Sensor" before replacing the EGR valve. i can't tell you where that is yet butI'm working on it. The ccode on my truck is P0402
problem with your 97 is your talking about a completely redesigned truck running a OBD2 based system this truck in question is running OBD1 circa 81-95 & OBD2=96-Present. On my 19990 theres a cover it slides up into and snaps into place on the breather box. however on my 1987 it's exactly like they've said it's on the fender well Drivers side
