1951 I6 to Flathead V8 swap

Anyone know where I can find info on this? Have searched all over and cannot find anything.

It's a 1950 Flathead V8 going into my 1951 F2 with a Flat 6. Just different mounts etc?

Thanks!

Radiator moves to the other set of holes, battery tray changes between the two (but can still fit), and the water pumps on the V8 are the motor mounts, so the frame end stays the same. If the V8 comes from a car, the oil pan will be different, and might interfere with the tie rod. Other little things like linkages and wiring might too.

You will also need a V-8 hood air dam .This is the piece that attaches to the hood above the radiator.

The piece that says FERD in it? Is that for Radiator fitment?

Look up inside the hood over the radiator . It has a seal on the bottom and a seal on top against the hood .The V-8 position is farther back than the I-6 where your air deflector should be now if present .

I may have the correct air dam for the V8. I may also have brand new and unused set of motor mounts and bolts for the V8.

6 cyl air dams are approximately 31.5" wide, while V8 air dams are 33.5" wide.

I believe that the 6 cyl battery tray is shorter than the V8 battery tray. You may need one from a V8.

This is what the air deflector looks like. It's tucked in up inside the front of the hood.

Battery tray for the V8. Concentrate on the leg length.

Thanks man...hopefully in a month or two we can start putting together the parts we need. I think the battery tray is on the passenger side with the V8 also, right?

Yes, battery tray is on passenger side for 48-51 V8 and 52 6 cyl. It's on the driver's side on the 48-51 6 cyl only.

His is a flathead six, you would want an OHV six for a '52.

Well the 52 is done and I have 3 extras for it anyway. I have a 48 f3 that has a flathead six that ate a ring in cylinder 1. The engine is shot anyway. None of the cyliners had good compression.
