Where to buy a shiftster? Stuck in 4x4 again.

I spent a bunch of hours this summer fixing the electronic shift on my 1994 f150. Got into some greasy mud the last few days and after my last use of 4x4 the system is once again dead and I was stuck in 4x4. 4x4 is something a guy has to be able to trust in or its a matter of time before he gets in a jamb. I'm wanting to just scrap the electronics and us a shiftster but I can't find out where a guy can get one. Any help? Also do they work ok with auto locking hubs?

After a 5 second search:

715562: Shiftster - Manual Shifting **** for Electric Borg Warner Transfer Cases | Advance Adapters

Why would you want that? You need to get out of the truck and reach underneath to work the transfer case. I would swap out the push button case with a manual one. Also what is causing the shift motor to bind up and not shift back? Are you driving on a paved road when you try to shift it back into 2wd? Have you tried backing up and then tried again?

I just want it to work. Switching to a manual one would be ideal but sounds kinda spendy for my yard work/ hunting truck. Do you know of any good write ups on the conversion? The system is totally dead. It's in 4x4 but the lights aren't on and the module doesn't click, the shift motor doesn't try, nothing. This is what I had before I took the whole system apart and used lots of other forumns to test the whole system. All the wires and fuses tested, redid all the grounds, tested the module, check sensor already had a new motor when I bought the truck everything tested fine when I put it back together it suddenly work with no explanation. Spent tons of hours over the summer messing with it and I'm not doing that again.

What did you find last time it broke? I used to have a Bronco with an electric shift transfer case and auto hubs: never had any trouble with the transfer case. The manual shift is the same transfer case so it should be as easy as swapping them out. Obviously you would need the shifter assembly and boot. It has been a while since I had the carpet out so I'm not sure about the hole in the floor for the shifter. I do not recall if it is in the removable transmission cover or not.

I actually never found a problem must have been a bad wire connection somewhere I gave up and put the whole system back together and it worked. If it is the same transfer case that might not be a bad deal. Is the shifter assembly purely mechanical?

I don’t know what you’re saying. I’m fairly sure that all the trucks of this generation only used different versions of Borg-Warner transfer cases. The 208 is a New Process case. No Dana cases since the late 70’s or maybe into the very early 80’s. Yes, Broncos have a fixed yoke but so does my pickup. What hubs he uses is irrelevant. You could run either type: manual or auto.

To me, it sounds like a bad connection.

Just go Manual

Sorry I meant new Process and it's a 203 if I am not mistaken its been 10 years since I had my bronco. The trucks and Broncos came with both Borg and New Process not sure why the difference but I know for sure they had both types and depending on the year most trucks had slip yokes so eliminating it is a solid upgrade if your gonna swap cases it the way to go and auto hubs suck in my humble opinion

Your truck has a BW xfer case. You want a BW-1356 to replace yours. You will of course need the shifter for the manual xfer case as well as the boot. If you will pull up your carpet, I bet you will find a plate over the hole that is glued down. Just heat it up with a heat gun and pry it up. This is what I did on my '91 Bronco SAE when I converted it.

Also I recommend you get the 88-91 style shifter. They are more reliable than the 92-96 style.

This is more trouble and money than the shiftster, but at least you won't have to lay down in the mud to put your truck in 4wd.
