'56 cab on a '53 frame?
Ok guys, here is my current question. I'm sure someone has already done this out there somewhere. I'm wanting to know how much trouble I'll have mounting a '56 F-100 cab on my '53 F-100 frame. How well will the cab mounts line up? Obviously, the '56 cab is longer but I've heard that the frames are exactly the same except, of course, for the gas tank located outboard on the '53. Any experienced input is welcomed!

Mine is that way. When I started, I had a '53 F100 frame that I had already subframed and put the 9" Ford under. Then I bought a '56 F100 which is what I really wanted, and rather than use the '56 frame and back up. I just used the '53. There are minor differences that only show up if you're doin a restoration. Where are you plannin on putting your gas tank? The reason I ask is if you wanted to you could use the original '53 mount and just cut the hole in the cab on the DS either up high like on the '56 or down low like on the '53 and use the repro '53 tank or you could go with a stock '56 tank (Not a good idea in my opinion) or you could use an under bed tank, like most of us custom guys did.
At any rate, the main difference is the length on the rear springs are a little longer/shorter (cant rememeber which is which) dont really matter to me since I changed all that old junk out and went with late model stuff. The cab mounts are the same and the cab will bolt right on.

Wow, fast response Dude! Thanks for the input. I'm not sure yet on the tank but I definately won't be putting it behind the seat! I'm not that fond of the idea of catching myself on fire! I've always wanted a '56 instead of my '53. Now I have the chance to swap cabs. I've got the Volare' setup and a 9" in back, w/ 351M and a C6. I've still got my original tank located outboard of the frame. I've taken out about 3 leafs in order to get the bed down to where it needed to be.
