460 air pump delete - what belt??

Hi all. I've got a '92 F250 with 460 engine. I want to delete the air pump. Has anyone else done this? I need to know what belt to buy. The other one will be much too long once I remove the pump. Thanks to anyone who can help with a length or part number.

460 air pump delete - what belt??

Just remove the original belt. Now take a peice of string and run around all the pullys minus the air pump. Measure the string. In my case the belt I needed was about two inches less than the string length. To give the tensioner enough room to take up the slack.

On my 300/6 with the air pump still on, I had to remove one bolt and grind the head down much flatter so it would not rub the new belt route, so check for that.

Just tell Auto Zone what you want to do. They don't have any problem taking back one belt and trying another. And are pretty good at matching belts by inches. Atleast where I live....

460 air pump delete - what belt??

shotgun: thanks for the suggestions. I'm not close to anything like Autozone. I'll maybe have to do it by measuring. Just thought someone must have already done it...?

CrazyFordMan:Not sure what gains, if any. I'll get. My convertor was plugged and restrictive so I removed it and installed a new dual 2 1/2" exhaust. With the cat removed, the air pipes are just hanging and blowing underneath the truck. Just a lot of pipes and junk rattling around down there, and the pump turning all the time. Don't suppose it's sucking too much power, but whatever it is, I'm going to put a stop to!

If pilgrim's truck is like mine he won't get any codes because the O2 sensor is before the cat... Some retarded years had an o2 sensor before AND after the cat to monitor proper emissions. You will also have to plug the pipes on the exhaust manifolds too.

460 air pump delete - what belt??

In case anyone else with a 460 is interested, the correct belt for the air pump delete is Dayco #5060475. Now you can go buy the belt and have it when you do the removal instead of having to go once you get to the replacement belt step. It's hard to accurately measure it first, since the pump is in the way of the new belt route and there's a limited amount of "tightener".

Not trying to highjack your post, but I was wondering what the part # is for a 95 5.8 without the pump?

well I can tell you there is NO (ZERO) gain unless your pump is locked up up something like that, They free spin. I removed mine because when I put the headers, I had to cut the air pipes because they were rusted on there. Anyway, Mine is a 351W (5.8) so I dont think the size of my belt will do you any good

mine is a 95' 5.8 351 W too, I am getting rid of because I'm going to run true duals.

well yours will probably be the same as mine. I had to force it under the idler pulley after the alternator, only because I knoe the tensioner was going to help the belt stretch some. It was tight but I got it on. BTW, I only use GATES BELTS and HOSES. There arer the best on the market
