Unhappy How to keep the lights from coming on when doors are opened?

Does anyone know a way to keep the lights, (interior and running-clearance) lamps from lighting up each time the door is opened? I don't like them automatically coming on, but have found no way to disable this sequence. The old way of just the interior lights coming on with door opening was bad enough, but now all the exterior lamps light up too.

Throwing this out there as I don't have a 2011 yet, but can you spin the interior dimmer all the way down to an off position?

2000SB, Yes, you can do this. However the outside clearance/parking lamps still illuminate for the timed period. Thanks for the try though. I'm afraid the answer will have to do with some sort of disable of the open/closed door sensor(s). And that may just not be doable.

I know on the remote start/ keyless entry/ vehicle security system there is an option in programming for this, maybe on the 2011's as well? You'd have to find the install instructions for the part # of the system you have, it's called "illuminated entry/ exit" in the programming.

If you have a friendly Ford tech you may be able to convince to them to hook the computer and enable the "police dark car" configuration in the BCM (Body Control Module)...

Sorry to bring up this 'old' thread, but my 2011 F-250 is doing the same thing that the OP describes in his first post. Strangely, I didn't notice the lights staying on when the doors are opened until just last night. I have gone through the manual and cannot find any solution to NOT having the parking lamps and interior lights illuminated each time the doors are opened.

So my questions are these:

1st: is everyone else experiencing their parking lamps and interior lights coming on each time a door is opened on the truck?

2nd: has anyone discovered a way to turn this 'feature' off on these trucks?

I do intend to call the dealer for additional help but would really appreciate hearing from memebers here about what they are experiencing.

1) Yes. They come anytime any of the doors are opened when the truck is not running. I can't remember if they do when it is running, but I think so.

2) No. Tried the dimmer gizmo to no avail.

^^^ Thanks for the reply, Marauder.

I'm wondering if the reason I never noticed the parking lamps coming on each time a door was opened was because the truck was still in 'Dealer Transport Mode'. Now that I have turned that feature off it seems the parking lamps have developed a mind of their own.

Does anyone have any ideas WHY Ford decided that it was necessary for the parking lamps and interior lights to be illuminated for 25 seconds each time a door was opened? I guess I'm not seeing the logic behind this feature...

I can think of 2 situations where it's a good feature:

1) If you are parked on a street at night. This makes the truck much more visible and makes passers by more aware the truck is there, and someone is in or around it. I know I'd swing a little wide just because of the lights.

2) If someone unwanted happens to get your truck door open at night, it draws a lot of attention to the truck quickly....especially with the roof markers.

I don't mind it at all. I think if I had to have the lights come on or not come on 100% of the time, I'd prefer to have them come on. Best case would be user configurable.

^^^ Thanks for the input. I agree with having features such as these more use configurable, but apparently that is not the case here. I suppose in time I will get used to this behavior, but for now it still seems unnecessary and a bit strange...

Well at least the 2011 does not illuminate the headlights like the 2008's do!
