When did your trans go out? How many miles? What do you use the truck for?

nice thread
I could have voted three times, all on the good responses. I've driven a 2000 and a 2002 for someone else at work and now own a 2002.
The first 2000 went to 200K miles with no problems. Daily driver and tower, but only in the winter time for a seasonal business.
The 2002, same thing but I only saw that one go to about 125K before the business was sold.
Now I run a similar business and bought a 2000 with 187K. OASIS & CarFax showed four previous owners, and it had a gooseneck hitch installed at one point, so I'm sure it has been around the block with some loads. I had a dealer flush it when I bought it, said everything looked good. Have only occasionally towed heavy loads with it myself though that will start to increase this coming winter, so I am starting to get a little nervous. "BTS" sounds good if I need it but I doubt I will have that kind of extra money around while meeting payroll every week. So far so good up to 245K.
I have no idea which trans these trucks had. All automatics though. Would like to learn more.
I do know that it is past time to change the fluid in the rear differential. Actually considering letting the local dealership do it to be sure to get it right, don't know a good truck shop in my area.

I voted that the truck is a daily driver and the transmission has not gone out at over 180K.
My truck was leased by Ford for it's first 5 years to a tire store chain. I believe it was used to tow a trailer (bumper hitch) to balance inventory between two stores in opposite ends of Utah, so moderate towing on a freeway. They turned it back in at 258,000 miles. Over 50,000 miles/year. Do you think they got their moneys worth?
I bought it at 266,000, and it just turned over 280,000. Still the original (Diode!!!!) transmission. No record of tranny work or replacement in the Oasis report, and you can tell the mounting bolts have never been removed.
I have a good working spare tranny that I intend to sent to JW (since I live too far away) for rebuild next year. I am crossing my fingers that the original one lasts until I get a chance to install the JW.
The truck is a daily driver. I live outside a small town and am 20 miles from the nearest city that I frequent for parts runs, etc.. I recently installed a service body, so it is a little heavier now, but rarely tow. My heaviest tow was my SIL's 99 F350 CC 4x4 LB 25 miles to my shop so we could replace his clutch.
I call my truck the "Oldest Living Mechanical Diode."

2 trucks i have now;
2000 xlt- (used 100% pulling all over country) pump went south (reverse caused TC to lock up) at 119,000. Continued running it pulling 5-12,000lbs daily across country, finally went out 300 miles from home at 193,000
2000 lariat went south at 140,000. would not engage into gear all the time anymore. Made a run for BTS in it (300miles) the truck made it perfectly! shut the truck off in BTS parking lot, cranked it to pull it in the shop, and she wouldnt move AT ALL.....she gave me all she had..

I bought mine in 04 from the 1st owner at 82,000 miles. He had a gooseneck and used it as a DD and to pull a trailer with his tractor around. The trans went at 88,000 and I had a local shop build it with a sonnax kit, a triple disc converter and syn fluid. The trans is still great, but I have gone through 2 more converters, the last which now has 76,000 on it. The trans rebuild has about 140K and still shifts like new. Has has a programmer of some kind on it since 2 weeks after purchase. Jodys tunes since 05 (120K) with no issues.

It never gave any signs of slipping when I ran it, I know it didn't help it any though.
That tranny didn't slip when we ran, lol... My 03 bought new and now has 146,000 on the tranny with fluid changes at 70,000 then every 30,000 there after. Mostly daily driver with some towing a TT 2 or 3 times a year for vacations. Modded trans VB and chipped at 90,000 or so, its been good, no overheating or signs of a problem except a slip before I put my JW VB in, no slippy now.

my 2000 F350, 7.3, srw, super cab, 4wd, has 180,000 plus on it and has not went out. I pull a 4 horse-horse trailer with 10 foot living quarters quite frequently. The scales said truck and trailer was plus 25k. The hay trailer and truck weigh slightly over 20k on average. No real mods other than slotted-cyro rotors and hawk brakes, desert air cleaner from Ford and Firestone air bags. I change fluid and filter on tranny at every 30k.

My 2000 F250, 2WD, occasionally towing a 7,000 lbs TT, has 125K miles on the original tranny. No sign of slippage yet but I began to feel a tad uncomfortable with the mileage until I read these responses. There is a good chance mine may go for another 50K miles?
The tranny on my Dodge 1500 bombed out at 49K, that's why I am anxious with the Ford !!
How often do you flush your tranny to keep it going past 150K miles?

I had approx. 218,000 miles on my 2001 F250 powerstroke when my zf 6 speed gave up. I hear these are as close to bullet proof as you can get. When it went out I was just driving around unloaded. However the truck lived most of its life until recently with a full sized service bed on it (approx 3500lbs) and since the bed was removed I have used it to haul mostly just a car hauler with my rock crawler aboard (about 6000lb. gvw)
