Hey everyone,

I currently have a 99 4x4 Expy and I am thinking about buying a 2010 or 2011 model (probably an XL, or XL-EL).

In my 99 Expy, I removed the 3rd row seat, and put a large container in its place; it has a ton of stuff inside it like tools, tire chains, water, food, blah blah blah. I secure the container in-place by using adjustable tow-straps that hook onto the hardware that would otherwise be used to secure the 3rd row seat.

I see that Ford changed the 3rd row seat such that it now folds entirely flat. So if I fold the seat entirely flat, is there any hardware available that would allow me to secure my container in a 2010 or 2011 Expedition? If not, any ideas about what I could do (besides buy an F-150 with a camper shell and put my container in the truck bed)?

I really need a way to secure my container box of goodies....

If I'm not mistaken, there are hooks in the back cargo area to hook in straps.

If that fails....you could always weld it in place

I'll try to get to a dealer and take a closer look. However, I'm thinking I might move back to an F150.

 

Negative on the hooks in the cargo area, I was disappointed myself to find there was nothing to secure packages, I added a Canvasback cargo liner and a Weathertech mat, both help to keep things from sliding around and cleaner.

 

Without drilling into the pan and adding your own hooks, you are outa luck.

 

Dang.... I haven't had a chance to get to a dealer to look, but I guess it is no-go.

I think it is essential to carry a bunch of safety gear/tools in my vehicle, but I also want it secured in case of a crash -- I don't wanna die because an unrestrained toolboox knocked my head off. :|

I guess an F150 with camper shell is a good alternative.

 

If your pulling out the 3rd row then you could make a bracket that fits into the folding seat attatchment points. Shouldn't be too hard to fab up, but it'll be a bit more unless your an experienced welder/metalworker. If you pick up an EL you could just throw a big box in the back and forget it.

 

The child seat belt anchors might be usable if you use a strap or something to hook onto and extend to above the fold flat floor level.
My old Astro van had actual folding anchor points in the cargo area.
