sending unit for oil temp

I am also looking to install this sending unit and have had one response, you have to get a billit oil filter cap with a port taped for the sending unit. One of the suppliers Elite diesel has this but I cannot find it on there web site,so I will give them a call on the phone today.Another person taped into his oil pan and sealed it with jb weld and claims it has not leaked for four years now ed

Thanks for all the replies. I already have a quadzilla commander (no tuner interface). I am going for individual gauges.

"Another person taped into his oil pan and sealed it with jb weld and claims it has not leaked for four years now" - this is crazy IMO

aside from the billet cap......are there any other suggestions for where they placed the sending unit for Engine Oil Temperatures?

Thanks
Joe

I agree with ya Joe--that is crazy and inaccurate for this application as well.

You either have to find an adapter to go into the factory hole and tee it off or get a billet cap (try fleabay). By the time you get done you could have probably bought an insight that would read it all???

So for sake of saying.....do most or all of you trust the reading obtained from the cap/sending unit combo?

Thanks
Joe

I installed one in my original oil filter cap.....tapped it and epoxied around the threads, then had to install a piece of pipe so the bulb wouldn't hit the filter spring inside. Works GREAT all the time except for real cold winter days here in MD. That piece of pipe sits up in the air flow evidently......I hear the billet filter cap works fine.

I saw a pic somewhere where a guy tapped his factory oil cooler housing adjacent to his factory sender.

I thought about tapping the OEM filter cap.....it appears to be thick enough....any chance you have a pic of the epoxy job and pipe piece?

Thanks

Tapping the oil cooler assembly would be my first choice.
A person can also 'toggle' between an ECT gauge giving it a dual purpose

otherwise; use the OBDII port for an electronic reader, like an Edge is also a good option, but it's not a gauge.

benchwrench,

I havent taken a close look yet, but is there a way to tap the oil cooler in place (I doubt it) or it has to be removed?

or...............what about tapping "t'ing" into the oil sending unit on the engine used for the idiot light?
