2011 F250 4x4 - NOT!

I see this is old, but I just had to find a pic to see what the fuss was about. Found an oil change video... Now I dunno if the oil filter is anymore exposed then it is on most trucks or not... seems ridiculously out there... but is that oil pan plastic??? and does that drain plug come on and off with just your hand??? lol. If so I'm with OP
The ****s wrong with you Ford.
<rant>[rant]
I had a rage moment today just changing a door jamb switch, when I get in there and realized they were side specific and I had the wrong one... I'm like who would do that.. the difference between the 2 parts is the location of the locking pin that sticks out.. thats it, luckily it worked by locking it in reverse anyways... but why would anyone do that and not just have the locking pin in the center?! someone has to go out of their way, to purposely design this retarded part to be side specific.. just like someone has to go out of their way to take a tried and true method, throw it out the window and replace it with a plastic oil pan ... plastic on the engine is always fail... alot of my vehicles have been older than me, that wont be the case for others going into the future with this crap design.
</rant>[/rant]
Moral of little side rant.. I never seem to be able todo anything, even the most simplest task on a ford, without running into some retarded problem that shouldnt exist.. why I'm on my 3rd Ford truck, I really dont know.. Mainly because I've owned something from nearly every company and I know they all have their screwed up points I guess.
Car companys blow my mind sometimes. A large portion of their bright ideas to screw people have to end up costing them more money than us in warranty repairs. Though they do have it down to a science and I'm sure most of it fails directly outside of warranty. Banks know it, lol.

I was bored so I read through this thread. Just wanted to point out some things. Kinda funny to read all the posts about people blaming engineers and whatnot.
now I guess a freak accident could have something "jump" up in there...but it just isn't going to happen daily. something like this is what you see when driving in the sticks off the paved roads and are running over trees/bushes. Certainly not just running down a dirt road
as for the oil filter being fragile...not the case. If anything, exactly the opposite. try punching a screwdriver through your oil filter. It takes a few whacks with a hammer to do it. And that's with the damn thing fighting you and trying to slide off one way or the other.
flip the pic 90 degrees.
see that radius arm? you are looking through the gap between frame and radius arm.
even with full suspension compression, this oil filter is AT ALL TIMES protected by a 6" thick chunk of steel. You'd have to be in some pretty hardcore stuff to hit that puppy. Your front axle is gonna eat it before the filter does....I guess you could back up into something....see that radius arm? you are looking through the gap between frame and radius arm.
