Turbo Problem

Hi everyone. This last weekend my wife and I purchased a 33 ft. 5 th wheel. We had to go to NY to pick it up. Everything was good but on the way home we had a problem. The black plastic hose blew off the turbo. It put a dent in the hood and what a noise. I had very little power and we were in a very bad place when it happened. My wife's cell phone went dead and I left mine home with my wallet. A man stopped and asked if we needed help. That was a very good feeling to see there are people out there that still care.
I put the hose back on. I had to use a piece of my floor mat to pack the clamp out. The clamp bottomed out before it was good and tight.
When we got on the way everything worked. This truck was very very nice to pull the trailer. Good power and very good MPG. I do not know why this happened or if there is something else wrong. That scared the %^%^ out of us. If there would have been a Chevy dealer near the Ford would have been gone.

Was the pipe cracked or did it just blow off?

The clamp bottomed out before it got tight after the first time it blew off. There was oil in the black plastic tube. I cut my floor mat and put it on the outside of the tube so I could tighten it up. The hood has a dent in it and had me rattled for a while. I am looking for an aftermarket part to improve on Fords system.

Now see my 6.0L Diesel does not have the plastic tubes like the 05 and up. My 04 has rubber boots and medal tubes.

I was pulling up a steep grade and my boost gauge read between 35 - 40 then it blew. I called the dealer and they were no help at all. I am going to put some black VRT inside the pipe lit it dry overnight then put it on with a new clamp and see what that will do. I can not find any aftermarket part to replace the stock one.

35-40 wow that's too much. With the tuner I only get 32 and that when I'm high tailing it.

Anything over 28# is too much for those clamps/hoses. You need to get that thing in to have the turbo looked at....or are you using a tuner?

The clamps are designed to handle up to 34psi. As for the tuner, I have only seen a max of 33 so there must be an major problem with the stock/aftermarket tuning of this.

I would have to disagree about the clamps and the amount of boost. From my understanding the stock clamps should hold more then what you guys are saying. To me that sounds like a bad clamp in general. I have taken stock 6.0s and hammered them and gotten 35 on the boost gauges. On our 450 at work I can get 40 easy from a standstill when I need to be trucking down the runway but then again its an 09.

Ryan, I am basing off of what I have personally worked on. I have heard stories to where they have even held to 50psi but I haven't seen it.

Its basically a heavy duty hose clamp. The way it tightens the clamp is just stronger then your normal hose clamp

I have on tuner and it is stock. I can run the thing up to the red on the gauge when pulling. Empty it will go to about 25 and that is it. I have not replaced the clamp it has stretched and I packed it out with a piece of my floor mat. There has been no change it running it now I just do not trust it at all and if it blows off again I will have to get rid of it. My Ford Dealer was not a bit of help at all. This turned me off of any dealer. I work of s John Deere Dealer and if I talked to people like that I would be fired.

Sam I dont know how far away you are from Newark DE but Porter Ford is top notch. Susan used to go to Ramsey in Elkton but she went to Porter this time. All the stuff Ramsey said needed to be fixed was just fine. I have to get a blow plug fixed but I think the rest of the plugs will be done at Porter. Check them out.
