Fan rubbing on shroud

I've been having that vibration problem lately. So annoying, but Its not a wheel bearing.
Hubs are staying cool, and no play.

I got a clunk sound like something is moving now, thats annoying.

anyways.

Should I assume that fan rubbing on shroud is from motor mounts? I really don't want to do motor mounts. =(

Thats just going to eat into my electric fuel funds. =*(

It's fine when its stopped, I have plenty of clearance all around, and I cannot move the shroud, so I only assume the engine is moving, because I cannot get the fan to wiggle any.

I would say if you got wear marks on your shroud and your pump is ok it must be your motor mounts. I'd say your assumption is correct

Just put the chip on its peppiest tune and give it some juice and have aomeoe watch the engine bay for any movement, or brake boost and see id you can get the motor to torque

I'm almost guessing that the bearing sound I've been hearing is the fan hitting the shroud.
I should pull it and see if it makes a difference. Not that the shroud is needed. haha.

The popping sound could be the motor moving in the mounts as well

Anyone here done motor mounts without pulling the motor?

I would also check the core support to make sure your radiator and shroud are still anchored securely and not moving.

They is not.

Though, I'm irritated the only place I have rust has to be on the core support down where it bolts together.
But I think this is normal for michigan, its one of the few places thats hard to wash in the winter time.

You know, it could be flexing a bit up there from the front end stresses while turning, thats a thought...
Hmm.

I'll look into this.
Sucks with a welded frame, you got a few more things to look after.

My shroud got destroyed while doing my body lift. Running it without the shroud since then and doesn't over heat at all... I'm planning on electric fans and a custom shroud later on anyways but it's fine for now.

It could be your front body mounts sagging also. Just a thought...

Yes I worked my butt off trying to get rid of a rattle after the 3" downpipe install.

Got to looking at everything real hard, the front cab mounts and radiator support mounts were in bad need of changing.

New mounts, no more rattle.

Bad motor mounts could let the motor torque up, but bad body mounts move the shroud down.

Yeah, my downpipe was rubbing on my transmission line after the install originally. I took off the junk u-bolt clamp, put on a good stainless band clamp and re-adjusted everything and it was fine after that.
Now with my body lift I could fit a 4" if I wanted...

Mines rubbing on the side of the shroud, not the top.

But there is over 1/4 inch clearance when the truck isn't running
I'm not sticking my hand down there when it is either.

I woulda lost em on my 95 if i had not been wearing gloves.

I was adding radiator fluid and squeezing the top hose, my fingers got tired, so i put my fingers under the shroud and wham.
Stung a bit, but I bet if i wasn't wearing gloves, I woulda lost a finger. or 2.

Total brain dead moment, not sure what the deal with that was that day.
