i will be surprised if you don't see at least 2mpg improvement. Basically i went from 14-15 on the hwy to 16-18 depending on how i drive it. This is hand calculated. The other big thing for me is the engine seems to run and breath so much better.

yeh, but you are running 250 (7800lbs) and 3.73 gears where he is at 10,000 lbs and 4.88 gear..

but I'll get glad to see the results..

Hey sam... Are you pretty much saying that you think I will see zero improvement? I really hope that's not true! I guess if anything the engine will run better with out the dpf. This why I keep thinking my mpg will improve. Plus no more regen.

well, its inconclusive..

regen takes like .5 gal and thats every 100 miles or so.

it will certainly run better based on the smiles from the folks reporting here.

but.. seems the ones reporting the best mileage increase (as posted here on FTE) are those with the lightest trucks (250's) and the lowest gears.. and empty

I'm driving an 08 F350 DRW, 4.10 rear.. so I am just not sure.

and lastly.. you are getting 8-10, and want 15.. thats 50-85% gain. I haven't seen anyone report that kind of gain. and definitely NOT while loaded or towing..

ps. I am getting 9 towing, 14.5 highway empty.. if you get 15, I will be installing dpf delete and spartan immediately.. no waiting.. cause I could get 15-20..

The best way to look at it is this. All you need to do is to figure how often you regen because each time you do you are consuming a good bit more fuel than when not. Some trucks regen more often than others for many different reasons. So first you remove the dpf and regenerations. Then you can add an improved (non soot reducing)engine program, and lastly your engine now breaths way better than before. Add all this up and your going to see decent gains. Some guys see more improvement than others. I saw less but my truck never regened much either. I believe this is because i always had a leaky DPF with black exhaust tips. My truck would smoke the day it rolled out of the dealer ship. Normally i would go 2-3 times longer than others. However, i was not worried cause it ran great and was very strong. So getting back to improvements i almost bet you that you will see around a 15% improvement in mileage. So at 9mpg you will then see 10.35. If your currently getting 13 empty then you will see high 14's. So as Sam said you may not get the improvement i'm getting or you may get better. Either way i think you will see at least 15% improvement. Now is that worth it to you plus the fact the engine will last longer and has improved performance even on the low tunes? Thats something you must decide...

i guess 15% is better than 0%......that extra 15% should add up quickly as much driving as i do....i wish i had everything installed now....im driving to beaumont tx tomorrow on a hot shot and would love to report my findings but....that time will come soon enough i guess....

anyway do i need to run any diesel additives? like diesel kleen..etc or is all that hype?

thx

based on what I've read here, it was useful when ULSD came out but the older engines hadn't been tested with it.. 7.3 particularly..

but ULSD is required for the 6.4..

the reports here seem to be on the low side of mixed.. most don't experience any change..

I do not use it..

I too, do not use any additives. I am not saying they are not worth looking into. I just never felt the need to increase the cost to run these rigs unless I was addressing a specific issue.
One thing I do run is an anti-gel lubricant if I get into some real cold areas. I can say however, starting this truck in the cold is a breeze compared to my 6.0. This thing fires up with ease!

regardless of what gears youre running you can probably expect a 15-20% gain. thats pretty much what ive seen out of every 08 super duty regardless of setup. so the 2mpg gain is pretty close. i saw a 3mpg gain but im running one of the lighter truck with 3.73 gears.

where to start? well i finished the install today around 11:00am it took about 3 hours from start to finish....

first off i will report the my observations before even putting the truck in drive after the install.

1) the intake looks very awesome!

2) the sound of the 6.4 is so much more defined now.

3) the extaust sounds like a jet engine when idle.

putting the truck in drive

4) its got alot more giddy up now....honestly its hard to believe its the same truck.

5)its easy to manage the speed...which is great for fuel eco.

6) sounds great when the turbo is spooling

7) does black smoke if you punch it

fuel eco

1) before the install i was getting 8-10 hand cal...in town and 10-12 fwy

2) i filled up and worked a very short half day locally in houston(only a 150 miles) the lie-o-meter as some people call it said i was getting 16.5 mpg stop n go...(that was roughly 80 total miles) then i took it on the fwy during non peak hours to see what would happen and the meter reported 24.4 mpg avg for 70 miles.....im not really beliving my own eyes when i looked there so i took some pics....will post if any one wants to see.....but at the end of the day my fuel guage still points to full and as not budged......so my guage is broken or im dancing in the street. i have read on here the mpg avg from the meter is off by 2 mpg.....if thats the case im still very...very happy.....

btw this is with a 1850 load on the bed....and not towing..(i rarely tow)... will report hand cal. when i fuel up again...talk to you soon.

texas450

did not proof read so sorry if this doesnt make since my head is still spining
