Great deal on used expedition, but tranny is why

OK, picked up a used 1999 5.4 expedition 4x4 for 3 grand. I really tried not to show my excitement to the guy when I offered him 3k (instead of the 4,200 he was asking) and he agreed. So here is what I have..

(this truck is perfect)
1999 xlt
4x4
5.4
4r100
120,000 miles and I am the 4th owner
clear carfax
clear dealer checkout (besides the tranny)
doesnt smoke, no leaks
no dents, scratches, or fade on exterior
no dents, scratches, tears, or stains on the interior
Toyo open country M/T's with 70% tread (score!)
Full set of Lund trimmings (hood gurard, sill covers and running board)
AC, Power everything, tow package, 6 disk, etc
all for 3k!!!!

Now it has a delayed/hard shift from 1st to 2nd..... thats it. All other gears shift up and down normally, its just that 1-2 shift. From what I have read this is a common problem with the 4r100 (if it has issues) and getting a transgo shift kit will cure the problem. I was thinking of getting the transgo kit which is 55.00 off their site or I could go with one that does not require me to change anything, a bolt on you could say.... who has had experience dropping the valve body and which way would you go being hind site is 20/20?

this is the rebuilt valve body
E4OD 4R100 REBUILT VALVE BODY MAIN CONTROL F6 96-03: eBay Motors (item 280494307728 end time Sep-13-10 15:08:29 PDT)

and this is the Transgo DIY kit

I have seen just about every thread with "4r100 hard shift" that comes up in the search. This thread has been the most helpful. Let me know if I am missing other good ones.

The part you need is most likely the 1-2 Accumulator spring. A common problem and an easy fix.
