I bought a 55 grill off of Ebay last winter. Now that I'm test installing my front metal, I've noticed the 55 grill is 6-8" shorter(along its length) than the 53 and 56 grills that I have. Is this right?

 

Not really sure but what I can do is in the morning I will measure my grill and let you know what that is...

 

No it's not right...the 55 and 56 wind deflectors have indents for the recessed headlight buckets but other than that the sheetmetal is the same.

 

I thought he was talking about the grill itself not the wind deflectors...

 

You sure what you bought isn't a 51-52 grill?

 

no.. they are all the same length, and bolt to the same spots in the deflectors.. the 56 deflectors have the bolts turned about 30 degrees from the rest, but there is a universal bolt hole deflector.. (6 holes instead of 3)

Could it be a grill from a delivery type van? Forgot what the correct name is.

Chuck is right, The "P" series parcel delivery "vannette" style bodies had a smaller grill, but looked just like the 53 or 55 styles

 

Maybe that's what I have??

 

Sorry about the confusion...since the grille bolts to the wind deflectors then any grille with the same mounting locations will readily bolt up.

 

53 parcel van grille is shorter than the f series.
