Finally got the subframe started. It is NOT fun doing by yourself. Especially getting the main bars up....Also got the old 5.4 just about ready to be pulled.
This is what I'm going to be going for. Dont laugh at the drawing....
Heres what Ive got so far...
The pass. side ready to go up.
I'm going to try to get some help tomorrow....
i know they are heavy as hell and tend to pack with mud, but how good or bad do the stock drums work? they seem to be the most expensive thing to deal with initially with rocks. you said you're going pinion brakes right????

Im not to fond of the buckets myself. Like i said, they came on the axle but ive got some other designs for new buckets. They are 1/4 thick and probably would work, but still ugly.
As far as I know nobody runs the stock brakes on these. There are quite a few 2.5 ton street driven trucks around here, but they have 4 wheel disc. Which is pretty expensive. Ive never seen a 5 ton driving around, atleast not legally...
Yes im going to pinion brakes. I got the whole kit was only 234.00. Comes with everything I need too. They shouldve been here today but nothing came...?

Hey tin man, just curious don't blow a butthurt fuse, are you planning on beefing up the link tabs on the axle end? they look kind of flimsy from the pictures. The material looks thick enough, but looks liek they need boxed in and/or some lateral bracing.
^^^was thinking the same thing. I don't see why people make huge tabs like that. Provides more leverage on te weld, and the longer the tabs, the more likely to break/bend.
I think those link tabs are fine, the upper links only get compression and tension. No side loads or anything and they probly need to stick up pretty high to get adequate link seperation between the upper and lower links because of the HUGE tires he plans to run.
