Never, ever let the truck out of your site when you go to a dealer.
a courtesy inspection man theres no secret that the goal is to sell you something that the normal owner overlooks. remember not everybody keeps up with there mantaince like we do

Another alternative to the fused link is to replace the switch yourself. I just did mine today. Takes 3 minutes.

I bought mine from Ed for around 9 dollars

When the recall was done on my '01 I was told it was leaking and could have caused a fire.

Anyone have a photo of the part that needs swapped out? Where is it located?

I just ordered one and am going to swap it out when it arrives. Just need to know where to start.

I don't want the dealer touching my truck because:

1. They are notoriously slow here. Everything takes at least two days. No thanks.
2. They always b*tch about other stuff on my truck.
3. I'm running a black CPS and want to stay that way. I don't want them swapping a gray in there while they're doing this harness thing.

no photo needed.Just unplug switch at end of master ,plug harness into switch , then plug vehicle plug into harness. When I got my notice, 2 more came in for company trucks so my dealer gave me 3 kits and I installed them.

The other option to the fused harness is to replace the switch instead.
See above post. Instead of a known defective switch that may draw a heavy load and may trip a fused link before setting your truck on fire ( super rare) you get the new switch instead
De-activator switch from 95-2002 exploder

Ed has them, mega cheap

I have pictures showing the fused link a bit in my thread https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/9...control-4.html
After having the windshield motor smoking on truck parked for 2 weeks a year ago I am strong believer in properly sized fuses.

Mine's done. Took longer to set the ladder up and get the wrench out. I unhooked the harness, clipped the new one in, swapped out the switches, plugged it in and shut the hood. Took it for a test drive and all is good.

Much better than letting the dealer touch it.

Copy down your vin number and call your local Ford dealers service department and ask them to look up your vin, if you need it they'll tell you. Or you can look on the inside(motor compartment side) of the master cylinder, theres a switch, look for a fused harness link..

Good deal Scott. I didn't take any pics plus I chanced it letting the dealer fuse mine to help with any pointers, glad you got it done.

Brent, how long have you had the truck?

I can go out and take pixcs of the modified set up if you want me to. Also, just buy the parts from Ed and do it yourself. It's not near as much as hassle as taking it to a dealer is.
