1990 F-250 XLT lariat IDI 7.3 crew cab 8ft bed
Hey guys im new to these forums but id like some seasoned frod guys to awnser acouple questions. my father has a 1990 F250 7.3 XLT lariat* with dual tank setup and an 8ft bed crew cab, its very rusty and needs some body frame and engine work. the mody mounts are rusted and aged. basicly the truck has had along and drawn out beating.
it needs alot of work, i love this truck. i grew up in this truck. do you guys think its worth saving? and its really rusty. also the rear end needs work shocks and leafs. one of the tanks leak and the exhaust needs to be remounted correctly. i really love this truck. but is it wortj fixing. these trucks are few and far between. so thanks in advance.
edit:
thought the thumbs down was a question mark. need to get my eyes checked

about 290k since we last checked
she always had oil/all foilds changed and brakes
s and shocks havent been replaced in years.
i cant post pics at the moment but its frame and body rust and its pretty bad. with some good body work the rust could be taken care of, but the frame is bad. when the truck runs there is no profrmence issues. it just doesent like to start.

doesn't sound to good does it.
a rusty frame has no business being on the road.
someone could end up getting hurt or killed.
often it's best to hang onto memories but let rotted out vehicles go and start with a clean/solid foundation.it's so much more cost effective anyway.
sentimental value has gotten a lot of people into paying some serious cash, that cost them more than if they just bought something else/much nicer.
i like my rig.but i wont think twice about stripping her naked and placing whats still good onto the next one when the time comes.
with some serious maintenance tlc.here's looking for 10 reliable years.

I have spent the last few years saving my dad's 1975 F250... it is now my wifes truck. She is not even half way done yet but runs like a top and fun as hell to drive. Bottom line for me... yes I have spent more fixing it then I would have a newer rig... would I do it all again? Heck yes without even a second thought! I grew up in that old truck and it's memories are worth more to me then any new rig could be. Like oreo said.. if it's worth it to you then do it keep it and fix her up.

It also depends on what skills and tools you have. I rarely mention it on here, but my dually had two spots in the frame rusted out 3-4 years ago, and in the last couple weeks I'd hate to know how many tons it's carried. To fix it though took me 2-3 months of any spare time I had, some fabricating hired out, and a pile of welding, cutting, torching, new parts, etc.
Was it worth it? For me, and what I do, and what skills and tools I have, yes. Total time and costs would still be well below what a replacement would cost, and I keep my first diesel going for a few more years.
Would I do it again? Maybe, for the right truck, at the right time, and particularly if time isn't an issue. Would I recommend it to others? That one depends.... my welding is decent enough that I can sleep at night and not worry about a frame repair breaking and maybe leading to an accident killing someone......but is yours?
