Dual fuel tanks some one help
Ok, so probably an old problem that everyones tired of hearing, but, my 1988 f150 is on the fritz, running fine it pumps fuel from the rear tank, which I have used for the past ten years because the front leaks horribly, to the front. I know the truck has 308,000 miles on it, and Ive heard there was a recall about this, but I need a fix and quick, I need the truck Friday as I'm going to school, and have no other way of getting there. For what its worth it is the 1988 f150 4x4, 302 4 speed short bed regular cab, someone please help, and quick

2 Ways to go - Dual tank issues
There is a right way to fix this and a quick patch. Your dual reservoir (tank switch) is stuck/leaking. You can either replace it or bypass by means of plugging a fuel filter inline in place of it - one in the supply line and one in the return line from the tank you will use. If you use the latter method - DO NOT switch tanks as you will have a horrible and dangerous fuel leak as the other tank will have open lines. It'll get you there but it's definitely a safety issue on that part and I'm sure I don't have to go over the dangers of gas on a hot exhaust pipe. Also important is to pay attention to the fuel line size as some are 5/16 and a few are 3/8. If you use filters to bypass make sure you have the correct filters for your line size.

I had the same problem with my 88 right before i bought it. Went to Ford and shelled out the $125 to get a new Dual Reservoir, part number F1UZ-9B263-B. Took me 5 minutes to swap out and its been perfect since. Either that or just figure out a way to bypass the reservoir and cap the front tank lines.
