U.S. ends combat operations in Iraq

After 7½ years, last convoy of fighting forces rolling into Kuwait

U.S. ends combat operations in Iraq - TODAYshow.com
"The final convoy of the Army’s 4th Stryker Brigade Combat Team, based at Fort Lewis, Wash., began entering Kuwait about 1:30 a.m. (6:30 p.m. Wednesday ET), carrying the last of the 14,000 U.S. combat forces in Iraq, said NBC’s Richard Engel, who has been traveling with the brigade as it moved out this week. "

Come on home troops, Welcome back!

And yet 50,000 US troops stay there to hold their hands.

I believe the agreement signed in 08 gave until 2011 for all troops to be out. I'm glad they are coming out, but believe that once all are out that the tribal fighting will start again for power.

I think it's great that our people are getting out of there. If the Iraq people want to kill each other, I say have at it. I don't remember hearing anyone say that they were the brightest people in the world.

It doesn't matter if they go back to fighting. The Iraqi people never wanted us there, the tribal people never wanted us there and sure as the Taliban doesn't want us there.

Only US news propaganda would have us believe that we are welcome there.

We need to totally abandon the big sand pit and bring them all home, period. We've never achieved our original objective after nearly 8 years of occupation.

Sorry if I went to far, i'm sure it'll get kicked to the club.

This is nothing more than a media stunt meant to improve the outlook of certain people. In my opinion, the war ended when the Iraqi government fell and the old army was disbanded or surrendered. That was years ago. We've been in a police action since then, and we've still got 50,000 troops over there who will continue the same mission, now with less reinforcements.

My question now is, the next American death (which I believe has already happened), will that start the count over or be added to the death toll of the war? Are the injuries and deaths of our servicemen now any different that the "war" is now "over"?

Iraq was better off with Saddam Hussein in charge. He kept a lid on the religious crazies.

America needs to stop fighting Israel's wars.

If you guys have been reading, all US combat troops are NOT out of Iraq.

They have just been renamed "Advise and Assist" Brigades.

This is the article from the Army Times:
Combat brigades in Iraq under different name - Army News | News from Afghanistan & Iraq - Army Times

and if we leave..what will move in and fill the void?

Iran is sitting there in better shape then ever..

Taliban are in need of a new home...

Lets not forget our buddies buddies in al qaeda.. they certainly need a home right now..

but we are just wanting to pack up and leave them to figure it out..we need to turn that whole area into a glass parking lot and be done with it..

I believe you are mistaken if you think leaving there will leave the US in a better position.

It has already been announced that if Iraq's security forces can't maintain control that US troops can go back post-2011. That was a whopper of a clause that I can't believe the Iraqis accepted.

It is very difficult to get oil out of a nuclear wasteland.

I thought we could have the suvivors work the pump.. just a thought...

On the other hand..how much oil would we need if we dont need to support all of our troops over seas, we bring them all home, we have our own oil.. heck.. we have so much it is just out there floating around waiting to be picked up..

But truthfully, if we no longer had to worry about that region.. how much less money would be piped out of this country
