2001 F350 shaking (need some help)

My 2001 F350 Power stroke diesel has developed a shaking between 45-60mph (witch is related to rpms i guess). The shaking is directly related to how fast i accelerate. i can power through it and it smooths out but if i gradually speed up it shakes. I can let off and it stops shaking immediately. There is no steering problems. The truck may not be idling right this is my first diesel so im not sure. The truck has been tuned but it was prier to me buying it. What is have read so far points to tire balance or possibly injector problem. Is there any way to check the injectors at an auto parts store or a way i can check it with a meter or by sight. Any suggestions on what it is and how to fix it would be great. Im a do it yourself-er.

Thanks for your time!

All my experience points to a tire balancing, or U joints.

Definitely have the driveshaft U joints checked, and also the axle U joints.

Those will be your most likely bet.

Another thing to consider is a bad CPS possibly? just a thought. Maybe a better description of the "shaking"? Kind of like turning on and off rapidly? Like a miss? Like a hesitation or stumble in the motor? Just some thoughts and direction.

I had the same issue on my truck Ended up it was a bad Rear U joint ... A tire issue would be noticed all the time at speed not just while accelerating !!

Thanks for the replies. The shaking is in the steering wheel and seat. It feels like the engine goes sluggish but then i can just give it some gas and it smooths out.

shaking like a fuel problem?

Does the shaking seem like a fuel problem? I am having the same problem. At around 1500 RPM my F350 starts to stutter and hesitate. I have replaced the fuel injectors 3 times and it hasn't fixed the problem.

If anyone can help I would appreciate it as I am having the same problem

Could it be some thing wrong with the turbo. Its like its not getting what the engine needs fuel/air. But i dont think it is misfiring. It is kinda like when a boat is cavitating.

brnab1 did it matter what speed or rpms for the shaking to start?

JJbracke how did you determine the fuel injectors where bad?

Thanks

I replaced the fuel injectors after reading posts here on FTE and also per recommendation of Ford mechanics. Changing the injectors each time seemed to fix the problem. However I have done it 3 times now and the problem keeps coming back.

Well that maybe my problem? I would love to know how to check the fuel injectors to see if they are functioning right. What did the injectors cost

Injectors are not cheap. The cheapest I could get a set of injectors was $1000. I bought them on ebay and installed them myself each time.

I am going to try changing my oil to a thinner oil (5W 40) and using Rev-X oil additive. I have heard that this can extend the life of the injectors and get rid of the rough running problem at certain rpms

Not a good idea at all. Our injectors fire off of high pressure oil and additives and to thin of an oil can damage them. Most additives reduce the shear of the oil as it passes through the HPOP.

It was speed it started at about 50 mph on my truck.... if it was engine related i would think u should feel it in any gear as long as the rpms r about the same..
