I put on the Magnaflow #19174 kit and it had too much resonance in the cab while under a load. So, I took off the muffler and put on a Flowmaster instead while keeping the rest of the Magnaflow system. It fit perfectly while getting rid of the resonance and sounds better in my opinion. If anyone wants a slightly used Magnaflow muffler let me know.

That shocks me that a magnaflow had to much drone, and a dronemaster was quieter in the cab. What cab/bed configuration do you have? Did you leave or remove resonators(s)?

It's a crew cab short bed with both resonators removed.

Anyone have any experience with Electric Exhaust cut outs before? Specifically on the reliability side, has anyone used one in the winter? Is it worth it? I am looking for performance enhancement not so much sound. I have read a lot of mixed things about cut outs/exhaust dumps "they are the best performance enhancers" OR "there is no difference" blah blah blah

can anyone here clear this dilemma up for me? I am open to ideas/experiences.

Its either a cut our OR MBRP cat back exhaust system or a mix of both?

Neither will give you any noticeable performance gains

ahhh, I wanna know what someone thinks of an electric cut out! I am leaning towards doing the full cat back 4" set up from MBRP,

I am currently running a AFE stage 2 cold air intake, do you think if I get a tuner w/ these mods it would be any significant difference over just getting a tuner with stock exhaust?

Also when I tune it, I can't just order any regular tuner I would have to have it calibrated at a local shop to match the new intake and exhaust?

I am thinking 5 star tuning and someone told me I could just call them and they will change it for me to match the different intake & exhaust?

If you tune/exhaust/intake, the tune will account for 95% of your power increase. If you want exhaust so it sounds good, do it. If you want an air intake because you like the sound of sucking air in, do it. But the factory exhaust system is 3" with no hard bends, and I believe a 3 5/8 tailpipe. yes there are cats, 2 resonators(unless your regular cab then 1) and a muffler, but they are all free flowing, Don't believe me?, pull both resonators and look through them, then straight pipe it to the muffler and see how loud the factory muffler is. I believe squishers is set up like this with no cats, and I bet it sounds really good. The factory air intake flows more than enough air. They are not getting this amount of power out of these modern motors by engineering restrictive systems. Most of the performance gain you will get out of the tuner will be shifting strategy. You can spend 1k custom tuning if you want, but is it really worth a few extra horsepower in a 7k lbs truck? I have nothing against anyone modding their truck. I did a muffler delete because it was free, but I was just looking for the sound.

And I think electric cut outs would be great, keep it quiet pulling out early in the A.M. and let her roar when you want.

Ah makes sense, thanks for the feedback ^^ will have to rethink some of this.

yesss that's how I felt about the cut out, im worried about it getting stuck open, specifically during the winter from salt etc.

I am running with no cats and no 2 into 1 resonator. But still with the 2nd resonator and the factory muffler. Also custom tuned but no intake. I'm super happy with the sound, no drone like I've heard reported from some full aftermarket exhaust kits. I tow horses with it all the time and it's not to loud but loud enough to hear it for certain. Driving the truck unladen and WOT it sounds pretty rank, especially from 4-6k rpm. I try not to do that to the horses...........often.

I'd love to hear a sound clip of your exhaust with that factory muffler. I wish you could buy just the front y pipe from dynomax to eliminate the front resonator.

I'm not really sure at all how to make/post a vid up. I pretty well only use an iPad and pictures seem easy enough? I don't know if a iPad could record it and post it here? I'm guessing I'd have to utube it or something? That's where my eyes start to glaze over a bit and my 41 years of age starts to show. Lol.

I feel you, I'm almost a decade younger and I struggle with this stuff sometimes as well. I'm guessing you will have to do YouTube as well, and could then post a link.

I find that every single time, without fail, there are litttle minor details that are overlooked. These details are what kill me. Take, for example, the AFE cold air intake part # 54-11972. This part has fittings in the plenum intake tube for replacing the crankcase vent lines. The Airaid cold air intake, part # 401-273 does not have these fittings. Which is correct ? They both claim to fit my vehicle, yet, they are different. It's these details that kill me. But, I do thank you for your help. It just gets so dam frustrating !
Magna flow has a cat back for our trucks. I got mine from this guy by offering $590 his buy it now was $682. https://www.ebay.com/itm/252405542569

Thanks again everyone for comments, I ended up doing both! I will post pics, vid and details this week.

I purchased the MBRP "cat back" (actually rez back) 4" exhaust, but right after the rez, for the ****s, I put a 4" electronic cut out. So I could bypass some piping and the MBRP muffler. This matched with a AFE cold air intake
