Dove C $$$ question
How much should I expect to pay for a very good set of Dove heads?
I have an agreement to buy a pair of "NOS pre production DOVE C heads". What should I expect to pay for these?
"I picked this set up because I wanted a set of DOVE heads for a build, and just never used them. After looking at them,I realized that something was a little different about these.Where Ford casts the date code, there is no date casting...just the word SPEC on both heads.Upon further investigation,it also appears that they may have never been bolted to an engine. There is no sign of oil,sludge,grime...nothing,but there is Ford blue paint in spots.I cant say for sure, but these may be NOS.As far as the SPEC thing,I have been told that that is reserved for pre-production or prototype parts.
One head has all of the valves and springs, the other is a bare casting.
They have been sitting in a garage for many many years,so they have surface rust, etc.I wouldnt suggest just bolting them on without a rebuild.Obviously anybody building any engine worth their weight would plan on having these machined, and built."

I don't know nuthin' but...
I bought a pair of rebuildable cores off eBay for 200 shipped to my door. An exhaust stud stuck in one - big deal.
I bought a pair machined with 2.25/1.75 valves 3 angle, springs w like 350# .550 lift capable, again nothing crazy but a decent set-up. Shipped to my door for 600.00.
I did get a subscription to re-in-car-nation . com and got some tips and proceeded to port the exhaust side to remove the thermactor bump ( an easy fix for a notorious exhaust side restriction in these heads - very exhaust side poor ) which ran me another 25 bucks I think. Lots of info and scott has done a bunch of flow testing and experimenting on his stuff so we don't have to do it on ours...
The "spec" thing is interesting... I wonder if there is anyone reading that could tell you more. Numbersdummy comes to mind. I would research the basics like port size - maybe they are scj port size or some thing weird and experimental...
Sure adds to the bull**** factor if nothing else.
Hey ... you could always buy them and then sell them to me for a loss!?!!! haha
Good luck - I'm interested in finding out what ya got
