Question Hey Expy El guys

I haven't been by here in a while, I sold my '04 F250. I am in the market for a new vehicle and I am very partial to the Expedition. I looked at an '07 EL Eddie Bauer 2WD with 32k miles for under $30,000. It looked brand new and will work for the family, 4 kids. I was curious about the fuel mileage and any recurring problems or maintenance issues I should be concerned with. Just let me know of any quirks you have experienced. Thanks in advance.

Watch for the tanny "bump" issue can be "fixed" by TSB reflash. The fuel mileage for me has been 9.6 city 18.7 highway.

I have an '07 EL Limited 4x4. Just turned 34,000 miles. It gets around 20mpg interstate driving, around 16 in town. It's been the best driving vehicle I've ever had and basically trouble-free.

pretty much trouble free really on these models. they've been around essentially since 2003 with minor skin/motor/tranny changes. Ford has really got these dialed in for the most part IMO.

check the hood for bubbling and the other body panels for the same (aluminum corrosion). otherwise just check the normal stuff. hopefully you've read about the 5.4 3v sparkplugs sticking issue. not a deal killer, but can be an annoyance

07 EL Limited, w/43K black, perforated leather heated/cooled. Where do I start. Drivers seat moved forward about half an inch when I hit the brakes scared you to death took six months to fix. Had a bubble on rear hatch door that required the whole rear door to be repainted. Heated seats required a fix at 20K something with the element. The spare is only a 17" while your regular tires are 18" or 20", so if you tow watch it. Center emblems on the chrome-clad hub caps had to be replaced, they called it delaminating. the pillar posts at each door where the tiny rubber cap is kept falling in those all had to be replaced. Transmission sux. In these forums they suggest bringing it to FMC for a computer fix. I will do that soon. Other than that at 6'6" this is the best fitting vehicle I have ever had. I drove several E-150's for 15 years and they pale to this great ride. I can get a solid 19 on the highway with six adults and luggage for a long weekend. If you have a headwind it will drop to 16 MPG.

I have an 07 Expy EL 4x4 with 55k miles. I was getting about 20mpg highway and about 15 in town. Then I put on a more aggressive tire, which I don't regret. Cooper Tires - Cooper Zeon LTZ - sport truck tires
That dropped my milege to 18 highway and 13 in town. These tire are awesome in the snow and rain. I will buy them again. They look sharp too.

I have an 07 Expy Limited EL 4x4 with 36K miles. We love it so far, except for the NAV. To say that it is comparible to our Garmin Nuvi would be a joke. When computing our last trip from Park City, UT to Mount Rushmore, the Nuvi (as well as Google maps) told me it would be 10.5 hours, but the route according to the Expy Nav was something like 15 hours! I have no confidence in its ability to find the quickest/shortest route. The expy was constently rerouting as we followed Google's suggestions instead, and half the time it seamed that the Expy map was woefully incomplete (I am running the latest map 8P). Other than that, we have only had to have our front ford emblem replaced as it was delaminating. Our MPG on our trip wasn't very different between city or highway, but it was mountinous and I am always in a hurry. We average 15.6 mpg city and about 17.5 mgp highway driving on Perrelli Scorpion tires.

I live in an area that sees a decent amount of snow fall. I wasn't that impressed with Pirellies performance in rain or snow. The LTZ's are a much more aggressive tire. This past winter they were by far...... a better tire, they do well in the rain also.

my 08 EL has been very reliable and comfortable - fits four kids and all their stuff comfortably and will cruise at 80 all day, or blast thru snow at any opportunity.
no major issues, just the tranny bump (fixed by the dealer on the first try) and regular oil changes. I am 6'6" and am very comfortable in this rig.
Gas mileage is not great (avg 10 city 14 hwy) but I have a heavy foot and this rig has the profile of a brick! I would buy this truck again.

'07 EL Eddie Bauer

Drove from Dallas,TX. to Niagra Falls, Canada a couple years back and averaged 17.9 mpg for the entire trip, two weeks combined city and a whole lotta highway. The engine only had 5k on it when we took this trip. Right now around town I'm seeing 15-16 mpg.

Had the tranny flashed at the dealer in '07. No major problems, some noticable wind noise at hiway speeds I wish would go away sometimes. The thing I like about this ride is that after 3-4 hours of driving on the road, when you do stop you're not all cramped up from sitting for that long. A truely comfortable vehicle to drive.

This fall I'll be cruising up through Wisconson, across the UP of Michigan to Gladstone to see my niece get married, then cross the Mackinac Bridge and drive the lakeshore of Lake Michigan back south before the snows come back. If this thread is still active I'll update my mileage numbers when I get back.

2008 EL Eddie Bauer 4x2 with 20k miles. Besides a memory seat glitch that was quickly fixed, absolutely no problems. Gets 16 MPG mixed city/highway. I'm going to run it till the wheels fall off.
What's the deal with the tranny bump, how concerned should I be?

Just had the trans " reflashed" today. They reprogram the computer. What a fantastic change shouldn't have waited so long.
