What should I expect to pay for a 6.0 transmission cooler

Hey to you all......... I've found a couple of 6.0 liter transmission coolers on ebay but not sure what I should expect to pay? I know most of you run these and I trust your opinions. One is out of a van and not even sure if it will work? It also comes with the power steering cooler. $95.00 plus $20.00 shipping. I assume the ps cooler really isn't needed and the factory one on my truck is fine? Oh yea, I have an '02 f250 crew cab 4x4 58k miles..... One other thing, is this a pretty easy swap or will I have to do some modifying and if so what? I sure appreciate some help here!

Not sure about the van 6.0 coolers and if they are any different than the truck 6.0 coolers. But the 6.0 cooler is an easy swap, you need 3/8" to 1/2" brass adapters for plumbing the cooler lines to the truck and that's about it.

Again, not sure about the van tranny cooler because of the differences in the body (potentially). I do know that a truck 6.0 tranny cooler will bolt to existing holes in your truck. You might want to call Ed (partsguyed.com) and ask him for the differences in the coolers (if any at all). Usually ebay sellers won't typically know.

Ok, I sure appreciate it! I've found two other ones that have came out of trucks, it's they are asking $200.00 for those? That may be the going price, just want to make sure so I don't get taken..... Again, I appreciate your in-put! Maybe some others will chime in on a price..

Cory, thanks for starting this new thread. This same topic was going to be my next question also!

I also saw the tranny coolers on ebay for $200 obo and had the same questions you did. If you could, please post any other info you find on this topic.

Thanks again!!

$200 is a fair price. Usually they are double that from a dealer.

here's some info:

I bought my new 6.0 transmission cooler off Ebay for $250 shipped. $200 seems kind of high for a used one. This time of year people can get more for them because everybody wants to upgrade. Come winter you should be able to get a better deal. Personally, I would be apprehensive about buying used unless you knew the history on it.

I bought mine at a wrecking yard out of a rolled low mileage 6.0L truck for $40, If I couldn't find one for less that $130 I would go with the truecool max. No that there is anything wrong with paying $200 I'm just a cheap skate.

You know, that thought went through my mind as well. I griped about the price of the new ones but passed up a couple of used ones and ended up buying a new 26 row from Ed.

I'm the same way on used items but so far I haven't been burnt on ebay. I've always checked the sellers history and feedback ratings before I bit and again I've done fine. So there are some aftermarket tranny coolers out there that are as good as the ones out of the 6.0's but cheaper? Cheaper doesn't always mean better in some cases? It seems almost everyone is running the 6.0 cooler and I'd feel more at ease following the rest of the group in this case.?.?. Yes, the $200.00 for a used one seemed kinda high to me too! At least now I know what a new will cost and I appreciate all the in-put on here! I'd like to find a good used one for about $125.00, that seems like a fair price to me? I guess the best question would be how long do they last in relationship milage? Would one out of a truck with 100,000k on it still have some good life left in it? I'm sure it also depends on how much pull was done with it? Anyway, I sure appreciat it!!!!!

The main thing about coolers is what was the condition of the trans that the cooler was hooked up to. If the tranny blew, there would be lots of trash caught in the cooler. Likewise, if the fins are bent, truck was in a wreck and it got physically damaged then you have to make a call on that.

Yes, I agree with that 100%. I'm just looking to save money where I can so I can do more MOD's to my truck....... I guess the best thing would be to find one at a salvage yard still in a truck and make up my mind then. Just hate to spend $250.00 on a new one if I can get this mod done a little cheaper. You know there are allot of crashed up 6.0's out there with low miles and a good cooler under the hood.........

there are members on this board who use alternate coolers with as much success as the 6.0 cooler, a close second to the 6.0 cooler seams to be this link to diesel site trucool max. The real draw for the 6 liter cooler is the "stock" mounting. It doesn't get much cleaner, but a good install can be had with the true cool if you are willing ot spend a little time...plus it new and cheaper.

Check the sellers reputation out real good. One of the guys on here got burned recently. Never received it. He did get his money back though, through Pay Pal, I guess.
