anyone with a dually 5 sp and 4.30 gears

if any of yall have either 4.10 or 4.30 gears in your truck with a 5 speed

can you tell me what rpm you are running at 65 ?

i checked my door code and it comes out to a 4.10 ratio
but at 65 im running just a hair over 2500 rpm and if i use that on the calculator at ringpinion.com it comes out to a 4.30 rear

so im trying to figure out which one i have

any help would be appreciated

2900 if you have 4.10 and 3150 if you have 4.38's

these rpm's are for 4th gear. thats how you gauge your gears. never go by overdrive

if your speed is off with gps then you need to get a new speed gear. if you go a little larger tire then it will even you out. your tires are smaller then what your speedo is set up for. a set of 33's would put you right where you need to be as far as speedo being right.

But if he's running a dually he's pretty much limited to running the 215's, unless he does some major rim shopping.

how to correct your speedo:
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/9...ler-tires.html

(i searched for your previous posts to see you have a '93.)

you'll want to do that so not only will your speedo be back on,but also your odo,for correct fuel mileage readings and maintenance routine.

or uses spacer's between the rims.
example:

if needed.he'd have to post his wheel #'s.

aight here is what i just got on the way home

4th gear 2000 rpm 40 mph on the gps pretty close on the dash
4th gear 2500 rpm 50 mph on the gps little farther off on the dash

odo seems to be pretty close, i know that its just a little over 30 miles driveway to driveway between work and home and it shows like 30.4 on the odo

right now im not as concerned about the speedo or the odo, well not really concerned about any of it, but if i do have 4.38 in the rear i want to get them changes to 3.73s to get better fuel mileage on the road.

were even the dually axles a 10.25 sterling ?

cause that works out to being a 4.56:1 way to steep for what i need

I would think that there were dualie versions of both the 10.25 and the D60.

You can count the bolt to see which one you have.

10 bolts is a Dana axle and i think it's 14 for the Ford axle.

215 is the width, not height. If he wanted he can go wider as well, just needs a small spacer between the tires.

best i can tell it is a sterling 10.25, its a 12 bolt, and the two places i have looked on line
only list the 10.25 for that year

is there anything that would throw the tach off and make it read wrong ?

its a sterling full floater for sure with a 4.10 rear gear ratio.
the only options were 3.55 or 4.10

you can swap the rear axle for another DRW pickup axle (make sure its not a cab and chassis rear axle) then sell yours.you'd be looking for a DRW pickup axle w/3.55's.
or you could have a set of 3.55's installed into your current axle.
4.10's with 30" tall tires is a great hauling gear.so depending on the camper your thinking about, you may or not want the 4.10's.
running empty to work and back is kinda useless to have such steep gearing with short tires, though if your thinking about a 5th wheel, you'd wish you had them.
if your planning on a carry on camper,id switch to 3.55's for sure.
