Better performing exhaust with close to stock noise?

My dad just bought a 6.2 F250 yesterday and it’s primarily going to be used for towing a camper. Other than that, just light driving around town. I’m trying to talk him into improving the exhaust performance, but his response is “no, I want luxury, I don’t want to listen to loud exhaust.” He’s referring to my Grand Cherokee which has the 5.7 Hemi in it and I put a MagnaFlow muffler and replaced the stock resonator with a flow through resonator. I love MagnaFlow cause it’s flow through and I feel like it was a pretty significant performance increase over stock, but I must admit it is quite loud. Definitely not obnoxious by any means, but I can understand if some were to not like it for daily driving. It was honestly louder than I intended it to be, but it does sound damn good.

Anyways, 2 part question:
1) looking under the truck, can someone explain what I saw? Looked like a rather massive muffler, immediately followed by a small round canister of some sort, immediately followed by yet another large muffler. Didn’t see if there was anything beyond that. It all seemed rather restrictive and I feel like performance could be greatly improved if some of that were taken out, however I’m sure that comes at a cost in the volume department. Which leads to my 2nd question…
2) is there a compromise exhaust system that will provide improved performance but not be too noticeable inside the cab beyond stock?

He’s got an SCT X4 tuner that I got him for his F150 and I’d like to get him some custom tunes for this truck after he does some other minor performance upgrades, but honestly it seems like any performance upgrades and tunes would be bottle necked at the exhaust and be a waste.

Its exactly what you seen 2 huge muffler and resonator. These trucks aren’t loud anyway I have mine all cut off with a glasspack and y-pipe fixing to cut that off and true dual it with Magnaflow Magnapacks.

I was thinking if he did 2 of the MagnaFlow 5”x11” mufflers and a flow-through resonator it should be fairly quiet.

With resonators it wouldn’t be very loud I wouldn’t think. I was surprised how quite these things are. I started off cutting off one at a time. Still isn’t what I want so going to go with true duals.

Borla made the svt performance exhaust on the first generation Raptors. It was a dealer option. A little louder and throatier than stock. Stock Raptor already sounds good. You might give it a try.
... Pretty sure Slowmasters are chambered; not flow-through.

Yeah that’s why I’m a fan of MagnaFlow.

I like Magnaflow too... Have them on my 66 Mustang, 66 F250, and my 77 scout. They all sound great. The stock exhaust on my Raptor has the perfect rumble with good sound at WOT. The newer trucks are well insulated so it's tough to tell how they sound when driving. I had my wife punch it while I was outside and got an earful.

I cut the back resonator and muffler out and installed one Magnaflow in place of the stock muffler. It's not loud and has no drone at all.

I have a 2017 F350 extended cab with long bed. I cut the small resonator out and stock muffler out. I replaced the small resonator with straight pipe, and the muffler with a Flowmaster Delta 50. It’s really not much louder then stock while cruising around town, or on the highway. It’s a little louder and noticeable with medium throttle, and heavy throttle. There’s no drone on the highway, I drive on the highway twice a day to and from work. I wish it was a little louder. But it sounds good.

Dusted off some pics of the magnaflow catback system installed the day I picked up new 13 CCLB 4x4 from the dealer. After 9 years, still giggle when it's pinned, never gets old

No regrets, zero drone and never threw a CEL

custom fabbed connections

SS piping to muffler

inlet

outlet

side exit tips

factory take offs

Assembled using the factory connections/hangars (if ever needed to go back to stock)
