Guys, what is your opinion on front spacers? I can get four of those 1/2" ones pretty cheap, I need two for the rear axle but what's to stop me from running a pair on the front too - it will make for a bit wider track and will help the truck track straight better, not like it ain't pretty darn good already, but still... The only problem I see is that now the wheels a hub-piloted, while with the spacer they will be stud-piloted only, but still with the factory lug nuts - is that potentially dangerous? On the rear axle the outboard wheels will be of that same arrangement, but the inboards are still hub-piloted, so no issues there, but what about a steer axle done like that?

Don't bother with the fronts, that sounds dangerous.
Only do that if your wheels are stud-piloted. There's a lot of slop in the lug holes for a straight dually lug nut to clamp down on.
It might be fine when your running straight, but throw in a scenario when you're going around a corner fast that's bumpy. Puts a lot of stress on that outside turning wheel.

Back to the beginning, your wheels are the 28333 number. Are yours stamped Accuride or Firestone? I looked at 4 wheels this morning, 3 of which are Firestone 28333's. Same wheel? Brand makes little difference? I also found an Accuride 29315.

With a google search, I came up with this list.
http://www.dicor.com/resources/PDF/W...pplication.pdf
4th line down for 2wd and 15 down for 4x4's.
Seems like the 2wd's took the standard 16x6, 8x6.5 lug, and 5.00" offset to fit 215/85R16 tires.
4x4's took the 16x6, 8x6.5" lug, and 5.35" offset to fit 235/85R16's.

You should look for more than just one wheel number, try 28371's, 28512's, and 29316's for a more broad search.

LCAM, where the heck are you located? 4x4 duallies are very common here in Western MA. Seems most every construction company has a 4x4 F350 dump truck setup for hauling dirt and plowing snow.

On the front spacers, that's kinda what I was thinking as well, but it's always good to have a second opinion, thanks!

On the wheels subject, I have three Accuride 28333 and one Firestone 28333 loose off the truck now, based on my measurements my fronts and my other spare are also 28333 or one of the other two 2wd models. Accuride 28333 and Firestone 28333 are identical in dimensions. My only 4x4 wheel is a Firestone 28371. There is a place 100-some miles away that parts trucks out, I asked them to go through their piles of dually wheels looking for ones stamped with 28371, 28512, or 29578, regardless of manufacturer, they just got back to me this morning and said they don't have any of those.

I'm currently visiting some friends in MI, the only construction trucks I see around here are older F-Superdutys and 2wd F350s, and a ton of newer F350s and F450s but still rarely 4x4 ones. I've looked through Craigslist within a good 100-mile radius, and there's hardly anyone selling any Ford dually wheels right now - there is the guy with the van wheels who's gonna be measuring them up today after work, and there is someone else with an unknown spare wheel and tire but that's an older listing and since he didn't respond I assume it's gone already.

Oddly enough the 28315 and 28316 numbers are not listed in the tables on Accuride's website (look on pdf pages 25-27), and neither is the 28371:

Hi all,

Does anyone know what year spread the 5.35 wheels were on ???
And they did only come on the F350 4x4, Correct ???

Does anyone know the depth of them by laying a straight edge across the face and measuring to the hub face ???
Be nice to have this on the 5.00 offset as well.

Thanks

-Enjoy

I know this is an old topic, but I'm gonna revive it

How do you measure the offset. Where do you measure from?

oops we missed your question back then didn't we Festus.
1984-1/2 - 1997 for both of those.
#29577 = 5.00 offset
#29578 = 5.38 offset

the larger offsets were found on the 4wd C&C's yup.
those ran dual 235's
the smaller offsets on the dually pickups (which were all 2wd) ran dual 215's.
like pointed out though in the thread,if you want to run dual 235's you can just add a wheel spacer between the 2wd rims to keep your treads from rubbing when loaded.
but there are cons to running wider duals.
the wider you go,the less traction you get (more floating) and reduced fuel economy (more rolling resistance.)
so choose wisely.

Sorry dig up this thread but I was over at a friends house looking for a spare rim or two. I have 4 28333 & pretty sure thats what I have on the inners. The crosses over to 28511 & 29577. The 4x4 I should be looking for is 28512, 29578, 28371, right?

Found a couple split ring rims (which I didnt want), pair of Accuride 28623 which cross to 29587. I think they had the locator hole but didnt write it down.
Firestone 27995, 27756 & accuride 27994.

I looked through the 'Gen Info' pdf but didnt find a way to tell the inner bore. Besides actually measuring them, is there a way to tell if any of them will fit my '85? (by looking through the catalog)

If your 85 has a D70 they will fit. If it has a Sterling 10.25 you will need to measure

Revived again ...

Brad, Offset is measured from the center between beads (center of tire) to the hub face.

Dually wheels are the easiest to measure.
Use two tapes, one to find the center, the other to measure.
Lay the DRW on it's hub face, measure from floor to bead center.

However in the field it's easier to measure Dish Depth with a straight edge across the wheel face bead flange (see pic in my albums under Misc.). And knowing what it should be for the offset you are looking for.

For example:
Accuride 28371 wheels have a 5.3? offset, Measuring the Dish Depth results in 8.25 inches.
Accuride 28333 wheels have a 5.0 offset, Measuring the dish depth results in 7.875 inches.

I just scored a matching set of six Accuride 28371's Ford# E5TA-1015-MA.

I am looking for another for a spare ...

-Enjoy
