They were not holding back on the MPG's. The additional power also allowed them to recalibrate the shift strategy of the transmission. This power combined with the new trans strategy will allow for less frequent downshifts which keeps the RPM's lower and saves you fuel. This will be most noticeable on the freeway...

I keep hearing people talk about this... mine is pre-flash (built 7/30) and my transmission shift so smoothly that unless I'm really on the throttle, I almost never notice the shift. In fact, I've taken to keeping the gear indicator up so I know what gear I'm in... sometimes I look down and am surprised that it has shifted 3 or 4 times Of course once I get the new flash, I won't have to keep pressing the +/- button every time I shift into drive...
maybe some of the things in the new flash were already applied? I just can't imagine my transmission shifting any better than it already does

I can clarify. New shift strategy:
Running unloaded, shifts are quicker resulting in less reduction in power/accel. as you gain speed. Passengers in the truck generally used to get pinned back in the seats but during a shift everyone's head would ease forward while power to the wheels was interrupted and then the head would go back to the seat when the power returned. Not a big deal unless you want to gain speed quickly.
Running with a load (trailer, probably most noticeable with a trailer of over 4K), shifts are firmer in feel and collecting speed happens with a much better feel. The gears (2,3,4) grab harder and makes you feel like you are in more control.
My whole post here is pretty much based on how I drive and like to feel the powertrain. I assume that many of you guys would have different opinions. I'm just communicating the 1 thing that I noticed with the new tune that was most significant to me. 10 HP is no big deal, 65 lb/ft of torque is cool but the transmission shifting brings it all together for me.

Anyone hear of any problems after the flash? I stopped by my dealership today to see if they had time to do it and was told they stopped doing them. The first one they did said wasn't running right after the update and they had to replace the PCM to get it back running. He also said they have a board that they can discuss issues on and that this has been hit and miss with dealerships. Not sure if they did something wrong that caused it or what. This is a large dealership and have always been great, although this is my first time dealing with the fleet department. (That's where they are servicing the diesels.)
