1952 Ford Truck Transmission

I'm looking at a 1952 F-8 with a 317 in it. It currently has a direct 5 speed transmission. Does anyone know what make and model the trans would be? What would be the make and model of the overdrive trans that came in the F-7?

Here are your Transmission Specifications:

Name: Transmission Specifications 1.jpg
Views: 31695
Size: 135.9 KB

Part Numbers from the Chassis Parts Catalogue for the 5 Spd Overdrive (standard on the F7, Optional on the F8) is: 7EQ 7004. ($ Fifth Speed is overdrive).

P/N for the 5 spd Direct (standard on the F8, Optional on the F7) is: 7EQH 7004 (*5th speed is direct drive).

In typical Ford Fashion there is no mention of an outside manufacturer or their model number in the Shop Manual, or the Parts Catalogues.

I'll look around and see if I can find something. In the mean time I'm sure one of the other folks will know.

The only info I have that sheds any light is a listing in a BCA bearing book that shows Clark 204 and 205 5 speeds in 48 to 52 and a New Process 210 5 speed in 52 to 55. Nothing in which is direct and which is OD.

The '52 direct drive is a Clark Model 205V. The O/D is a Clark Model 204VO. This is from the transmission identification chart in the 1964 reprint version of the Chassis Manual, page 329. Stu

Oh Man, if they have the vendors IDs on the F-series transmissions, can you scan those and post them, Stu? I've been looking for those for a long time (or pass me the full name of the manual you got them from)?

Thanks!

Edit note: Never mind - Found them! YEAH!

Yeah, if I can sort out the scanning feature of the new printer/scanner. I tried on something else this afternoon and gave up. If you want the book set it's the reprint two volume version of the '48 to '56 Chassis Manual that you can buy from just about all the vendors.

OK, glad you found it. Stu

Yeah I have the "Illustrations" Catalogue in hard print, then both on a CD. I never look at the "Text" half. Maybe I oughta look through it to see what else is in there I've been looking hard for that I haven't been able to find!

Thanks for trying!

Ps what kind of scanner printer?

Darndest things what you find sometimes that you didn't know you had. Seems I find new oddball wheel listings every time I go digging for somebody. For instance, I just found a 20" Budd with 6 x 7.25 that I never knew existed. The only thing I have on CD is a '49 Hildy's that I got from Bob. Otherwise I sit here surrounded by books.

The printer/scanner is a wireless network job. An HP Photosmart Premium that right now is thinking it's smarter than I am. Stu

Thanks for the info. Will later models 250 or 280's fit?

Yep same printer/scanner I have. You have to be sure to download the "HP Solution Center" AND turn off your router firewall during the start up "initialization" (where your computer and printer talk to each other for the first time). Other wise the competer software doesn't finish loading. Not sure if you are past that point yet, but it took me 3 days on the phone to Pakistan with HP to finally get someone to tell me that the router had a firewall and it needed to be disabled (then three more with the router Co. to finally convince Remadi that I really needed to turn off my router firewall and have him tell me how to do that!).

Have fun!
