Towing an F250, 4 wheels down

Is it necessary to run the engine intermittently when towing an F250, auto transmission/maual 4WD, 4 wheels down in the neutral/neutral configuration?

No. But be absolutely certain you get the manual transfer case. Put that in neutral and you are good to go.
