Little back ground, 1991 Exploder 4.0, 5 speed trrans.(clutch replace about 2 years ago) (trans rebuilt, shifts real tight and good by a friend of mines shop about a year ago) My sons car, and he and some friends went camping this week and did some 4 wheeling. Worked good but on the way home it started bucking at 3000 rpm. well I jumped in my Jeep and went after him but he was able to get over to a slower speed street (30 mph) and it was able to make it home. We let it sit for a few hrs and now it seems to be ok but the clutch pedal is really, really hard to push and before it was really easy to push. It will shift through the gears with out grinding. Any ideas on what may be going out? I am thinking the pressure plate is shot.

 

Did you ever find the problem with this? We are looking at a 91 explorer 4dr 4x4 5spd, and after taking it for a test drive today, the clutch seems very hard to push...I did not however check to see if fluid was full in the clutch master. Thanks for any advice or help.
